Astro-Physics vaporware complaint

Posted By Paul Gustafson

>>Why didn't AP announce that it will no longer take names on the 400 and 600 notification lists, and then fulfill the product for those already waiting, BEFORE announcing this new mount?<<

It would really stifle innovation if they had to grind through 3-4 more years of continued production to clear out the list before introducing a new/replacement product.

Advice: Before I take the pluck

Posted By Paul Gustafson

Plan your layout first by sticking toothpicks in. If you put the eyepieces in vertically, you can fit more in the case (see pic of 1550's). If you place them in order of focal length, you'll always know where each one is without needing labels or a light. Leave two foam squares between adjacent eyepieces, one isn't enough and will eventually tear.

Galaxies in APO

Posted By Paul Gustafson

Low contrast detail is one area in which apos excel. Given equal aperture, a scope with better contrast and less scatter will give better views of deep sky objects, especially faint ones. Whether the difference is noticeable depends on many factors, including the target object itself, the sky background, the visual acuity of the observer, the experience of the observer, etc.

No more small TMBs

Posted By Paul Gustafson

Markus at APM said he would receive 66 of the 105 f6.2's in 2005, so you should have absolutely no trouble obtaining one from him. He is TMB's supplier for these scopes, so if TMB doesn't carry them go straight to the source.

See msg 23356 in the TMB Yahoo group for APM's list of new TMB scopes for 2005.

I have the Glatter laser and have been very satisfied. It's well built and has given me no trouble. Mr. Glatter was the person who first brought this product to the amateur astronomy market, and I think it is important to reward the innovators.

That reviewer had not tried the type 6 Naglers at the time of the review. He has since noted that he has been impressed by the planetary performance of the type 6's and is doing another planetary eyepiece review to include them.
