Question about Thousand Oaks solar H-a...

Posted By Rex Cox

Does anyone have any experience using Thousand Oaks hydrogen alpha filters and ERFs, either visually or photographically? They are way less expensive than those sold by other popular manufacturers. Are they a sleeper bargain, or should I look elsewhere?

Re: Apology, and adios for awhile

One of the reasons I rarely, if ever, post in the political and religious forums is that the written word often has little inflection or tone of voice. The written word can be interpreted with a broader range than when you are having a face-to-face conversation with someone. Not always, but it happens when you least want it to. It's very easy for things to be taken out of context.

Another reason I steer clear of jumping into the fray is that no matter what your point-of-view, no matter how well reasoned you think it is or know it is, there is always going to be someone who will step forward to tell you how wrong or what a fool you are. One side isn't going to change the other's mind.

I come to this web site for astronomy. I leave the arguing of P&R to others. I'm stress free. For the life of me, I'll never understand why there are even P&R forums here.

I'll say this though. If you are going to jump in to a discussion on a forum like this, and you feel passionate about your stance, I wouldn't apologize for it. If you're going to debate these kinds of subjects, you better have a thick skin.

Astro Sight Saver still in business?

Posted By Rex Cox

Is the company that makes Astro Sight Saver still in business. They were an Astromart sponsor, but their web site appears to be down and I can't get any email responses. I just got a new laptop computer and would like to get a nice red screen for it.

I am just starting with AP and know that some of the terms, I hear as others talk about AP, are foriegn to me.

So I need a simple AP for dummies book.
Any ideas???

I'm in the same position you are in Kenneth. I have found the Astrophoto Insight web site to be a great source of information. It's an online magazine.

What city dwellers miss...

Posted By Rex Cox

This is a Yahoo story about what city dwellers miss out on. Since it's a news story (well, maybe not news, but...), are they just now figuring it out? wink Sadly, I realize that there are a lot of kids who live in the city who haven't a clue what the night sky really looks like. sad
