Craving a Celestron CPC 1100!

Posted By Rex Cox

Hi William. From time to time, about once a year or so, it seems Celestron and Meade have sales where they either discount their scopes or offer nice incentives to purchase a scope. I saw on the back of the latest issue of Astronomy that Meade is offering such incentives. I wouldn't be surprised to see Celestron follow in kind. It may be profitable to wait a bit.

Abell 73/PK95+7.1

Posted By Rex Cox

Wow, that is faint. Not as faint as Abell 17 though. I looked for that one on a challenge list at Okie-Tex last week before I found out that it was actually a plate defect--nonexistant! Why it was on the challenge list, I don't know. :S

Great photo Chris!

Freak Telescope Accident

Posted By Rex Cox

Great story Linton.

A few years ago, I had my 18" Obsession set up in the front yard to clean the mirror and do some other maintenance on the scope. I just set the scope up and clean it without removing the mirror from the scope assembly. It was a bright sunny day, and I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt with cutoff sleeves. I wasn't paying attention to the fact that the telescope was pointing in the general direction of the sun. Well, I walk in front of the scope, and suddenly, it felt like someone had put a cigar out on my shoulder. Yee-ouch! I learned a lesson that day about where my scope is pointing during daylight hours.

If the Gators don't beat Vandy, I'm pretty sure the coaches and half the players will be auctioned off on eBay. shocked

I'm pretty sure Texas is feeling that way right now.

Mirror Resurfacing

Posted By Rex Cox

There are certainly a lot of good ones out there, but if I were going to have my mirror resurfaced, I would send it to Mike Lockwood at Lockwood Optics. He can work with any mirror, but his specialty is ultra fast mirrors. I've looked through some of his f3.3 mirrors and they are phenominal.

Alright... Now What?

Posted By Rex Cox

I reluctantly sold my several-hundred-copy vinyl colletion a few years back. Putting that collection together was a labor of love that started in my junior high years, but I had simply run out of room to keep them. I had pretty much replaced all the vinyl I listened to with CD's, which I prefer anyway. Right now, I have a vintage Pioneer SX-780 receiver, a Pioneer DV-333 CD/DVD player, a Nakamichi DR-1 cassette deck, B&W 602 speakers, and a set of AKG headphones.
