Why not just buy a pulser kit like the ones Astrosystems and Scopestuff sell for $20? Mine works great. Of course, I understand that some folks just like to build their own.

I recently sold a G-11 here and the person I sold it to was able to rate me, but I can't figure out how to rate him. :S

Anyone know what's up?

On the left side of the Astromart screen, click on 'account menu', then scroll down and click on 'unused ratings'.

CI-700 Drive

I am repairing several bad CI-700 drive contollers. The hardware is all functioning and the only problem is the flash memory in the AT89c52 micro-controller is corrupt. I tried to read out a good AT89c52 but the flash memory area is locked. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the HEX file. I sent an e-mail to Celestron eventhough I know they no longer support the CI-700, and have heard nothing, "go figure".

Is the CI-700 Celestron's Losmandy based drive? If so, I wonder if Losmandy could be of any help?

Is anything short of a 5 star rating acceptable?

Jack Bruneau said:

A 4 star rating would be a B grade in college. (80%) Any one who has bought or sold on Astromart has waited for buyers or sellers to respond, "like new condition" may have been a stretch, ect. Yet if we started rating buyers and sellers with less then 5 stars, I think most folks might have an issue with it. Yet it seems that it is either 5 stars or zero! Is this right?

Personally, I think the ratings system would be much more useful if the stars were scrapped altogether, and just leave the comments portion in place. I generally give the comments others have left for a seller or buyer more merit than the stars part. I think when it comes to leaving comments, people are a little more objective because you can be descriptive in giving your opinion of a transaction.

Try buffing the Ebonystar laminate on the alt bearing with a bit of Johnson's furniture wax. If you really want to get slick, top that off with a very thin coat of Armor All. Just spray it on and wipe it off. Spray just a little on a rag rather than on the ebonystar itself. It takes a lot of the "sticksion" out of the movement of the scope and makes the alt bearing and teflon pads work with a lot less friction. Experiment to see what gives you the best performance.

D.B.Cooper's parachute

James DellaPenna said:

It also said he was apparently not familiar with parachutes because he ignored a perfectly good one for one that was "sewed shut"!

I served 4 years in the Navy, 3 of it as a crewmember on P-3 antisubmarine patrol craft. Never in my experience have I heard the terminology "sewn shut" in conjuction with a parachute. I can not imagine why a parchute would ever be described in such a manner.

Either NBC got the terminology wrong or D. B. Cooper was intentionally given some parachutes that would not open. If it was the latter, why has there been no follow-up by the news media on that startling revelation?

Anybody got a clue what's going on? Something I'm missing in the facts?

Maybe it's just a way of describing a chute that's been rendered inoperable?

...Mountaineers! Their bowl victory over Oklahoma was impressive especially given all the distractions they overcame.

Indeed it was. Oklahoma played poorly in all aspects of the game, including coaching. On third and long, the W Va quarterback ran it for a first down so many times after faking pass that everyone seemed to expect it except the OU defense. At the beginning of the second half, OU seemed to have the momentum going their way, until they attemped that bungled on-side kick. I bet there will be some coaching changes on Bob Stoops staff, hopefully starting with the defensive and offensive coordinators. OU's defense hasn't been the same since Mike Stoops left several years ago. Offensive play calling is a joke. W Va defenders were covering the short pass like a blanket, but OU would call pass plays that would almost garrantee coming up short when they were in a long yardage situation. OU loves to throw that little pass to the sideline that works about 1 time in 15. Most of the time they loose yardage with it.

By the way, I just heard that the W Va interim coach got the head coaching job today. He earned it.
