My Latest Blunder

Posted By Robert Watters

Ok, here is one I'm not proud of. Taken last weekend with a C8.

Here are the specs:

NGC6888 the Cressent Nebula, 1x45 min with no processing what so ever, Kodak PJ400, C8 with a Lumicon OAG running at F7.

Now what puzzles me is why the center is so far off focus but the outer edge seems to be fine. Film was tight so it should have been flat on the rails and it looked in focus thru the view finder (but that can be debatable). The only other thing I can think of is the focal reducing lense was not installed properly (ie, backwards).

Anyone have any thoughts on what went wrong before I remove the focal reducing lense to check that?

BTW, I have 1/2 a roll like this!!!!

Cats Paw Nebula

Here is one of my shots that turned out ok from last weekend. Being located 42N and these objects at about 35S this is a usually down in all the muck, but we had a few exceptional nights (still would like it to be higher in the sky). NGC6357 to the left and NGC6334 to the right, south is to the lower right.

2 x 40 min on PJ400 with a ST80-F5. Normal PS tweaks applied.

M31 With Meteor

M31 with a short little meteor just to the right side of it. Kind of neat!

M27

Here is a shot I dug up from a while ago (couple of years maybe) when I first got into imaging. Hand guided thru a C8 at prime focus for 40min from my back yard.

Veil Nebula

Posted By Robert Watters

Well, after many tries and many failures. I finally got a shot of this darn thing. First attempt was in a crunch for time and didn't get it, second attempt (40min) was ruined after I forgot to close the shutter and proceeded to change lenses (with a red light), third attempt was ruined when the battery went dead. Finally on a separate night the 4th and 5th shot came together.

Nothing like being jingxed (spelling?) on this object.

2 x 40min with a ST80 F5 refractor on Kodak PJ400.

Comments appreciated, Robert.

M33 Wide Field

Posted By Robert Watters

M33 shot with a 80mm ST F5. A single shot on Kodak PJ400 for 40min.
Not quite enough focal length to see much detail and it is grainy because of only one shot, but it will do for now.

Last Weekend's Aurora

Posted By Robert Watters

Here is one of the shots I took of last weekend's auroral breakout. 30sec shot on Fugi 200. After this major burst of about 30-40 min. it died down to just a green glow hugging the Northern horizon for the rest of the night. Occasionally it would spike up a little but nothing like the initial wave.

C8 Drive motor problem

Posted By Robert Watters

Hello all,
I have a C8 Deluxe that I bought new a couple of years ago. I detect a vibration comming from the RA motor. I notice it the more when doing solar observing but lately it can be seen all the time at higher magnifications at night. I do a lot of double star observing now so I tend to push the power on a regular basis more so than before. It is very annoying.

I run off a 12V DC car battery so low voltage shouldn't be the issue. Anyone have any suggestions???

C8 Motor Problem

Can you guess what company I support???

The C8 is on a G11 now but I don't have a new pic yet, and the Star Hopper is equipped with a Mark Harry mirror (outstanding!!).
