Treehopper?

Posted By Pete Brayton

Nice picture David! Back in 1981, I was hang gliding in southeast Oklahoma and was at about 3000' above the ground in a thermal and looked over and saw a grasshopper flying right next to me. It apparently got sucked up from the ground into the same thermal...I've never seen a grasshopper with such big eyes!

Radical Animal Rescue Groups

A friend of mine was trying to give away some kittens for free. He had several takers...some of which were people who owned large snakes and wanted the kittens to feed their snakes! He decided to not give them away for free and had to charge a nominal fee to keep the snake lovers at bay. What with the Michael Vicks of the world, maybe a little background information on would be pet owners is a good idea.

sharp at higher power

Posted By Pete Brayton

Thomas,
How do the images look at low power? Are they clean and sharp or still a little fuzzy? When you focus with the 6mm, is the focuser racked in/out all the way with no further room to go? If so, you might have to move the main mirror forward or backward in the tube...not a fun thing to do! Also, have you checked the collimation of your mirrors. That might be the biggest issue and I would look into that before I started moving the mirror around. I had an Orion 8" reflector that had good optics, so I doubt if you have a bad optical system. I hope this helps some.

Steve, check the under side of the OTA near the back end. I think they put the stickers there sometimes.

What does "ED" mean?

Posted By Pete Brayton

Bill, good question. "ED" is a type of glass used in refractors. Specifically, "ED" stands for "extra-low dispersion" glass which produces images that do not suffer (as much??) from chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration is the inability for light of different colors to focus at the same focal point. Pete

Eyepieces for PST?

Posted By Pete Brayton

I have used my regular eyepieces with my PST. The Cemax eyepieces apparently are designed for the PST but, I don't think that they are necessary. Just use what you have and if you don't like the results, you can switch. I have a Celestron 8-24 mm zoom eyepiece that I use, but it shows a lot of vignetting at the lowest power.

Have you checked into Weasner's ETX website? He provides lots of info and might have a suggestion.
