To sell or not to sell....

Posted By Dwight Bogan

You have the Ultima fork I take it the bigger heavy duty fork tines that was made in the mid ninties? You have something like a 6 or 7 inch worm gear in the base. If this is correct have you tried to do Astro-Photography with this setup. If you have the fork I'm thinking of, I don't think the CG5 is going to be your answer. If you were upgrading to an Astro-Physics Mach 1 goto then yes that would be an upgrade. Personally I would keep your Ultima 8 and use that for your photography

Crushing new taxes

Posted By Dwight Bogan

To somemone making more than 100k or more I don't relate. You should pay more taxes you should pay proportional to what I have to pay. So here is my answer to those who think they pay more than there fair share of taxes and they make more than 100k a year. Boooo hooooo hooooo hooooo I feel for you

NASA funding cut

Posted By Dwight Bogan

The NASA Funding has not been cut but has been increased by 6 billion dollars a year over the next five years. What has been suggested cut out was the Constellation program for returning to the moon by 2020. Of course Congress has to rubberstamp this suggested white house budget before it becomes law. After what has transpired over the last year I am not too surprised by this decision

GPS and AP1200

Posted By Dwight Bogan

To my Knowledge I don't think no one makes such a device. Last you don't need it. Just give the mount the local time and your local coordinates and your good enough. I have used my 900 goto, Mach 1 goto and my 1200 goto CP3 I use my local time and GPS for Phx Az I can go 100 miles north, South, East or West from my location and I use my home as the current location. The mount really only needs the local timn to point accurately. I take it that you are using the mount as a German Equitorial and not Alt Az. You do not need to give the mount its exact location to the nearest tenth of an inch for the mount to do its job.

Getting into astrophotography...

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I would also recommend the set of Vids from Tony Hallas that are really very good. Then there are the tutorials from Jerry Lodriguss. Last don't discount the lowly DLSR there are plenty of things you can do with this type of camera. A Hutech modified Canon DSLR such as the T2i and the software from Images Plus is a great way to go. BTW you have a really steep hill to climb. 8)

Imaging: What's the Point?

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I guess the same could be said of Visual only. When I go out with my imaging gear I try to set up off the side of the field away from everyone else and try to have my laptop only visible to me. I have the dimmest setting on the laptop selected and I use a plastic red filter. I put red plastic tape over power lights and so on. Another thing I do I've done my own experimenting and trying new ideas out in my own back yard. Only when I know what I'm doing then I'll try it at the dark sky site. It helps to come prepared too. Yes I like to image some of the same objects it called getting better at it. smile

Tucson Science and Astronomy Expo

Posted By Dwight Bogan

I was there on Saturday talked to Roland, Marge, Howard and George had a great time got all my questions answered. When I arrived Sat morning I came down with my little group from Saquaro Astronomy Club. Our driver spotted Story Musgrave walking from his hotel to the Tucson Convention center so we gave Story a ride. grin In case you guy's don't know yes the Astronaut the one who saved the Hubble Space Telescope. Story was one of the Keynote speakers in the afternoon and gave a great talk about his life and how he became an astronaut. Story is in his mid seventies now. Over all the conference was pretty well attended. I did not come down on Sunday I'll have to let someone else chime in there.

Windows 8/Philips TouCam Pro WebCams

Posted By Dwight Bogan

Toucam works with Windows XP, Phillips never updated the driver for their little camera. I solved the problem by getting the Celestron Nextimage 5 I use that with my Windows 7 machines. So you have two choices upgrade to another camera or put windos XP on your new machine.
