Posted By andy campbell

Does anyone know a good cheap source for a Gearhead motor to rotate my dome? I am thinking I will need two, one on each side! Thanks! 8)

Politically Correct Seasonal Acknowledgement

Posted By andy campbell

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, non-addictive,
gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice (with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others or their choice not to practice such traditions at all).*
Furthermore, I offer my (non-binding) best wishes for the onset of the generally accepted calendar year of 2006, but not without due respect for
the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. (Which is not to imply that America is any greater than any other country or is the only "America" in the western hemisphere.) These wishes are offered without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, choice of computer platform or sexual preference of the wishee.
Happy (if happiness is in your belief system) Holidays (if you recognize them)

* This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promises by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for his or herself or others, is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish expires within one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first.

Dome automation

Posted By andy campbell

In another thread Ted VanSickle Said:
"Hello Guys, There is a reason that you might want to make the center
of rotation of your telescope lie at the center of rotation of your dome. If you
ever want to automate your dome, the rotation of the dome to keep the
telescope pointed through the opening will be much easier if the center
of rotation of the telescope coincides with that of the dome. That way,
all you must do is keep the slot pointed toward the azimuth of the telescope.
Otherwise, the calculation can be terrible if rotation of the telescope
is not centered on the rotation of the dome.
Ted"

Well Ted your statement was very prophetic because that is exactly what I want to do. To that end I recently acquired a gearhead motor and controller.I am wondering if anyone has tackled this project already and if you folks have any advice about the installation of this motor.
Thanks Andy

Whats going on with my LX200?

Posted By andy campbell

I was trying to image a comet last night. This was a 60 second integration. Anyone know why my scope would jump around like this? Seems like a lot of movement. :S
