Ikeya-Dang!!!

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

I just found this "amazing" comet over spring break, and
was highly dissapointed. After looking for it for about 3
days, I'd almost given up. I scanned alomst the entire sky
about an hour after sunset...didn't find it. Ikeya and Zhang
must have spent at least an hour in the Atlantic Trenches to
get their eyes adjusted to find this comet.

DID YOU HAVE BETTER LUCK THAN ME?

Any astro clubs in/close to Toledo, Ohio?

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

I live in Toledo, Ohio. One astronomy club in my area has been revealed as a hoax. Anyone have any info. I'm willing to travel a maximum of 30 minutes away.

Eyepiece Moisture

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

I took my telescope to Florida with me on spring break. Somehow, I got some water on the inside of it. One onf my friends said that I could bake the water out of it; he said it worked with his bino's. Any other suggestions besides buying a new one, or taking it apart?

Ken Skonie! Did your grandson enjoy the scope?

Just checking in on our deal. It's been long past April, but the suspense of co-dawning a new astronomer is killing me. So what did he think?

Corona Viewing

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

Hey Astromarters,
Since there's no total eclipse in N America i figured this to be off topic. I know during eclipses you should get a solar filter of project the image through a telescope. However, I heard somewhere that during totality you can not on look w/the naked eye, but through a scope. Is that true?

Can it be done?

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

I know you can save money by building your own scope. However, I don'y have the time to grind my own mirror, and am not about to handle a 10 inch, $350 mirror outside of it's cell. Is it possible to create a FrankenScope with a flat primary mirror? Buying a bathroom mirror and getting it coated is alot cheaper. Open for suggestions...

Herschelian Relflecter?

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

Hello All!
Earlier this month I posted a question about the possiblity of a flat primary. One Astron-Marter told me the focal point would be infinity, another told me to try to find the deminsions of the porter hill telescope.
Today, I came accross a design by Willaim Herschel. This, I think, uses a flat primary to direct the light straight into the eyepeiece. Is building this kind of scope difficult?

Hate-Mart

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

Hey AstroMarters,
Do we not know how to treat each other. After
meandering through some of our ratings, I've noticed hate-mail-like comments. Why are our reputation's are getting ruined, because an e-mail didn't get through,
someone was busy with their kids, or someone was out of town! When I became an AstroMarter about two years ago,
I didn't see any of this going on.

**EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES**

If you can't deal with it, why should we have to deal
with you. This is one of the only sanctuaries where astronomer's alike can talk. Why make this a place where
we can fight?

Lengthening F.L.

Posted By Adam Jaffe Back

Just wondering. I'm thinking of building my own scope will a
large 18" parabolic mirror. However, the focal legnth is only 6". Is it possible to stretch that out with a lense of some kind. I don't want to make this a Cass, more of a newtonian. Or would it be more feasable to try a hershelian design?
