"Is that Mars image to be expected (CCD or Photography) from this refractor?"

Maybe if the person was imaging from ISS

Mars 12 July 2003

Posted By Jefferson Teng

Hi everyone, here's my Mars image taken this morning.

Scope : TOA 130 @ f/38.5
(2.5x Powermate + 2x generic short Barlow)
Camera : Phillips Toucam Pro PCVC740K
Filter : Sirius Optics NIR1 (IR filter)
Software : K3CCDtools & Photoshop
Date/Hr : July 12th 2003/11:03UT

700 frms stacked using K3CCDtools (Planetary wizard), and the rest of processing was done in Photoshop.

Mars July 18th 2003

Hi,

I had a chance to try image Mars again, this time I also tried Sirius Optics' newest filter called "Mars filter".

With the addition of the new filter, I don't have to use "FL" for white balance setting to acquire a red looking Mars. I simply leave it to Auto.

I think the purpose of this filter is for visual use only, but hey, it works for imaging too smile.

Mars from Table Mountain Star Party

I went to TMSP for one night, and got chance to image Mars this morning. This is the result from the first *.avi which was processed on site.

5.1" refractor @ 38.5 (5x Powermate)
Phillips Toucam Pro

Another one

Same setup, taken 21 mins after the first one. For this one, I manually selected the best frames (211 out of 572 frames).

Reprocessed July 27th 2003 Mars

I tried stacking and processing my data from July 27th 2003 using Registax. It's easier to pull out the surface details using wavelets function in Registax compared to my Photoshop routines.
The only processings I applied in Photoshop were RGB alignment, Gaussian Blur, and Midtones.

Mars Aug 1st 2003 - 0952 UT

Posted By Jefferson Teng

It was pretty hazy, before the clouds rolled in, I managed to captured 4 *.avi with my 5.1" Takahashi.

I stacked 115 frms out of 150 total, captured using K3CCDtools, processed in Registax & Photoshop.
I tried RRGB, it helps to cut some blue channel fringes due to atmospheric dispersion.

Hi Rolando,

Very nice, one of the best Mars image using eyepiece projection method I've seen.

Hide and seek

Posted By Jefferson Teng

Well, Mars was playing hide and seek with me this morning, but I managed to capture four sets of avi smile). There's some turbulence but it's not really bad.

This one is 120frames out of 300 frames, taken using K3CCDtools, stacked in Registax and finally processed in Photoshop.

scope: 5.1" refractor @ f/38.5
Toucam Pro, Powermate 5x, NPC filter (as IR block).
K3CCDTools, Registax, and Photoshop.
5fps, white light setting set to "FL", gamma 20%, saturation 20%, brightness 40%.

I've been playing around with the setting, and seems like this setting works pretty good for my 5" light bucket, so I'll stick on the same setting since now on.

best regards,

Pushing the limit

Posted By Jefferson Teng

Hi,

Since the seeing condition was pretty good this morning, I stacked my 5X Powermate and 2X Barlow for my first 2 *.avi data. I didn't take a lot of frames since I thought the data must be undersampled. The result turned out okay, and reducing the resolution by 50% helps too.
