solar transit?

Posted By Radu Gafencu

I was looking at the Sun last evening at about 7:30 pm central time with my Lunt 60mm telescope and I noticed a transit across the surface. The shadow was round, very well defined and it took a few seconds to pass from one side to the other. The size of the disk was comparable with the size of a sun spot. I thought at that time it must have been Mercury or Venus but when I checked today I found there were no transits on that date.

Anyone has any idea what could have been? I never saw a solar transit before, but it looked like in the pictures

Thanks,
Radu

Membership support notifications are flooding the classifieds

Posted By Radu Gafencu

Membership support notifications are flooding the classified listings lately... It makes more difficult to browse though the listings to see the actual ads. I am wondering if they can be filtered out by default from the root 'Astromart Classifieds' category and moved to a separate new category?

Thanks

repeat buys?

Posted By Radu Gafencu

I am wondering what pieces of equipment people bought more than once because they were either too good to let go, or just very useful

Here is my list:

19mm Panoptic
3x TV Barlow
Siebert bino
1.25" dielectric diagonal
Meade finder bracket and base

solar transit?

Thanks for all replies. My location is 45, -93 taken from Google Maps. I don't remember exactly the time, it was 7:30pm +/- 30min...

Starry Night Pro showed a Chinese satellite that passed very close (within one or two diameters) but that had a rectangular shape.

I've seen many Jupiter transits and that shadow looked like that, perfectly circular and well defined. It took 2-3 seconds to go across the upper half of the sun right to left as I was seeing it through the telescope.

Maybe it was a balloon as some of you mentioned. I did not think of that

Radu

Hi, nice picture! Just wondering: how much of the details from the stacked picture could you see visually?

1. Charge an annual member fee rather than asking for donations
2. This is not the place for politically motivated polls

Many people complain their accounts have been deleted without notice because they did not donate. That makes the donations in fact mandatory for people with many transactions.

An annual fee would solve that issue. I personally would prefer it that way.

I agree. I personally know three fellow astronomers that will not consider any more donating to AM just because of how these polls are conducted

I think this is the kind of negative buzz that does not do any good to the website or members
