Best Year's For Cave Astrola's Mirrors And Scope's

Posted By Michael White

Greetings Everyone; I am new to this forum and would like to Post a short introduction about myself before I ask my question. My name is Michael P. White but I go by Mike White mostly. I am on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society and a member of the Sidewalk Astronomers and also the Planetary Society. My question is in what years do you guys think that Cave Astrola Co. manufactured there best Mirrors and Reflectors as I am in the market for ether a 8" f = 6.7 to possibly a f = 7 vintage Cave Mirror or the whole Scope without the Mount. Thanks to any responders.

Motorized GoTo and Tracking Dob Mount

Posted By Michael White

I was wondering if anyone knows of a motorized true GoTo and Tracking Platform for a Dob/Reflector that can be purchased separately without the Scope. One ware I can put my 8" Dob into it and use it out of the box per say. I am not talking about Encoders, Steppers or Digital Setting Circles but a fully motorized GoTo and Tracking System for Dob's that are all inclusive. A complete system that I could buy pre assembled ready to take out of the box per say and put my 8" in and is ready to go without having to do anything to it but put my Scope in it, align it put in a NGC number push enter and it does the rest. I see Orion Telescopes have put there Dobs on a Motorized GoTo Tracking System but they don't offer the Mount separately and when contacted they say they have no plans to do so in the near future.

Riverside Telescope Makers Conference (RTMC)

Posted By Michael White

Greetings Everyone, I was wondering how many of you out there plan on attending the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference (RTMC) next week 5/12 to 5/15 and your thoughts on not having it this year on Manorial Day Weekend and it closing on Sunday instead of Monday?

Thinking of buying Orion GoTo XT 8g

Posted By Michael White

Greetings Everyone; I am thinking of buying a Orion GoTo XT 8g and was wondering if there any trustworthy unbiased reviews on this GoTo 8 in. Dob? Also does anyone know who makes there mirrors as I think its Synta of China but I could be wrong. Another thing that I would like to ask is if anyone has tested these mirrors to see there RMS and Strehl with Knife Edge Peak to Valley Wavefront Standards are or the Calibrated Ronchi Autocollimation test and Interferometery test standards / specks are on these mirrors. Also I was wondering about if the drive and or stepper motors could handle me doing some minor upgrades like adding a 9 X 50 finder, Telrad finder and heavy duty eyepieces like a 31 mm Nagler Type 6 that weighs by itself 2.2 lbs?
Thank's in advance for your help,

Upgrading Eyepieces for 8 " f = 5.9

Posted By Michael White

Greetings Everyone; I am going to buy a Orion XT 8g and I would like to know which eyepieces I should upgrade from and to which first. I have a TeleVue 20 mm plosel, a very old Edmund Scientific 15 mm RKE
and a 17.5 Meade plosel. Also I already own a Orion 2 X Shorty Plus. There
all 1 1/4". I am wanting to upgrade some or all of these eyepieces over
time with ether Baader Hyperion Planetarium or Explore Scientific 82*
series.
If you could only buy 1 or 2 of these eyepieces for this Scope now what
would they be as you upgrade, and from what out of the collection I have
to
what. (what would you upgrade from first and to what)
Thank's everyone in advance,
Mike White

Power Tank 17 Won't Charge

Posted By Michael White

Greetings Everyone, When I plug in my charger for my Celestron Power Tank 17 to charge it and flip the charge switch to the charge position all of the charge status lights come on for about two seconds and then the whole Power Tank clicks off and wont charge. It is only 4 months old and maybe used 10 times. I always charge it after using it and before using it until the fully charged light comes on but now as I said it just makes a click noise and all of the lights go off and it shuts down. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
Thanks

Because I figured that not all of the people that monitor that forum monitor this forum and visa versa. I did get great responses on that forum but I wanted to cover all of the bases, am I wrong in posting to multiple forums if the question applys to the different forums? I am a newbe and not sure of this forums protocol.

I am not quite sure why you are reposting your question on this forum, your post of a few days ago on this exact topic to the equipment forum received initiated a nice thread with a number of seemingly helpful responses.
