What type of tripod/tracking mount Maxscope 40?

Posted By Peter Schuerhoff

Anyone have a recommendation for a reasonable mount/tripod setup for a MaxScope 40? I'm expecting it to arrive soon, but I'm wondering what others have found useful. I do intend to take photos. I have an 8" GPS system I suppose I could piggyback the 40 onto, but it's somewhat cumbersome to set up.
Spent most of my nickels on the scope. Would appreciate your input.
Thanks, Pete. - I know, save more nickels. 8)

Major Problem Shipping USPS Global Priority

Posted By Peter Schuerhoff

Pay Heed to this message!!!!
I've noted I'm not the only one experiencing problems with international shipping. I sent a couple of very expensive items to the UK on the 27th of December using USPS Global Priority. To date the purchaser has not received the items. I would advise anyone considering using USPS Global Priority not to. What I didn't realize is:
There is no way to track the item. None. Any one in the Post Office or in Customs can pocket your goods, without a trace after you handed it over. The USPS site suggest everything will be fine and even suggests it is the best economical way to ship internationally. In my opinion, this has the potential for being a huge ripoff. Great Brtitain seems to be having a big problem after reading other posts. Global Priority is suppose to be 4-6 business day. I'll never send overseas again. If there is anyone who has ideas on how to put pressure on USPS and the British Customs service, please advise. :C

Need Advice on Refractor Scopes

Posted By Peter Schuerhoff

I'm thinking about getting into an inexpensive refractor scope that is very portable and gives good views. I'm primarily interested in easy, quick setup and do not plan to use it for astro-photography. I own an 8" SCT, lots of 1.25 and 2" eps, diagnols etc, but just want something I can quickly set up/take down from time to time. So....I like to get others opinions on what they have or like to use. Budget for this is $400.00. I realize this isn't much, but I'm certain there must be something out there for my particular need. As I don't know much about refractors, I would appreciate others advice on what they feel is a well suited scope at this price. Thanks-Pete

Re: More fun than USPS!

I hate to admit it, but your recount nearly had me rolling on the floor. I'm certain that sooner or later, you'll get the "Global Priority Service" I'd paid for.

In all seriousness, I hope all works out for you. In the mean time I'll be monitoring CNN to see if they're clearing any airports after finally locating what they think are WMDs. wink

Fastar System for Nexstar 8

Posted By Peter Schuerhoff

I've just listed a Fastar system in the classifieds for $240.00 and would like some feedback as to if the price of this unit is in the right ballpark or too high/too low. Figured someone here may have a fairly good idea. I just purchased this thinking I could use this for any CCD system, realizing that's not the case, so off it goes to soemone who can use it.
Thanks, Pete

SV AT1002 Specs??

Posted By Peter Schuerhoff

Just purchased my first refractor (SV AT1002) for a quick set scope. Don't know much about it though and searching for specs has turned up little detail web-wide. Can anyone provide some detail as to when this scope was manufactured? pros/cons/suggestions et al. I was told this was one of the first AT1002s made by SV.

Thanks - Pete
