home made image intensifiers

Hi, smile I recently been looking ito a image intensifier made by Andy & Darion from Roslinton Astronomy in England. They are using a Gen.1 EEV P8079HP intensifier tub. Has anyone here made one or has used one. They can be made for $130. Very tempting. I hope somebody knows just how good they are.

10" or 12" reflector on CGEM?

Hi, I have a CGEM with a C6R on it. Been looking at AT's 10"{29.5lbs}and their 12"{40.5lbs.} I'm fairly sure the 10" would work but would putting the 12" on be insane? I just look through the eyepiece. Tell me what I want to here I'll deal with reality later grin . Thanks for the advice. De Lorme

CGEM max weight capacity

Hi, I have a CGEM that I would like to put either Astro Tech 10"{29.5}or {preferably} 12"{40.5 plus rings} reflector on.
I think the 10" would work. Would it be insane to put the 12" on?
I read there's a guy in Europe who put a 12" on his CGEM.
I will be using it for visual only. Thanks for the advice. De Lorme

8" F/6 Refractor

Hi Everybody, Iv'e read that a 8" F6 refractor on DSO and planets is mediocre. If someone here could confirm this {or not} I would
really appreciate it. As I'm desprate for a large refractor and
a 8" F/9 would not work on my CGEM. My main interest are GC and GX. How would the Moon,Sun and Jupiter fair. Thanks for your help.

Collimating a F/4 AT reflector

Hi, I need some help in collimating my 10" AT f/3.9 reflector. I centered the secondry under the focuser. Next I used the 3 outer screws to center the primary tabs into the secondary mirror. Last I centered the Primary using the primary ajusting nobs to the secomndary mirror. When I put the cross hair chelshire into the focuser the cross hairs do not line up with centered primary. I can center the secondary to the cross hair and than center the primary to the cross hair but when I do there's ony 2 tabs in the field of view. Am I getting the full use of the mirror when I do it this way. Is it better to just center the 3 tabs and then center the primary{with it's ajusting nob's}, and then do a star test? Hi, Deos anbody know where to buy mirror clips for an old Odessey 17.5 mirror? The mirror is 1.5" thick.
Iv'e looked at a few home made cell designs but is there a specific one for a large mirror that can be easily made? Thanks for your help. De Lorme
