M27 w/Canon XS and AP180EDT at F/6.9

Posted By Thomas Davis

Here is one I just finished up processing of M27 taken with a modified Canon XS and an AP180EDT at F/6.9 (.75X AP reducer).
80 minutes total exposure (5x10 minutes at ISO1600 and 5x6 minutes at ISO1600). On-camera darks (long-exposure noise
reduction) used, stacked in Maxim DL (median combine) and curves, levels and color balance done in Photoshop CS4. Cropped
down to 1680x1050 at full resolution, and saved for web to bring under group size requirements.

Veil Nebula

Posted By Thomas Davis

This is one I did last week with a Hutech modded Canon XS at F/4.8 using a TeleVue .8X reducer on a TMB 80/480 (Lomo lens version). It is composed of 130 minutes total exposure over two nights. NGC6992/5 on the left, NGC6979 right of center at the top, and NGC6960 at the right.

NGC7000 w/Lumicon Deep Sky Filter

Posted By Thomas Davis

I started using a 2" Lumicon Deep Sky filter I had laying around for nebula imaging last week.
This is one of the shots I took, NGC7000 taken with a Hutech modded Canon XS and a TMB80/480
(Lomo lens version) using a TeleVue .8X reducer corrector. The shot is made up of 6x6 minutes
and 3x8 minutes at ISO1600. I've been very impressed with the increase in contrast the filter
provides.

First Horsehead of Season

Posted By Thomas Davis

I finally got a chance to try the Horsehead with the AP180EDT. This was a quick
series I took early this morning. 4x15 minutes at ISO1600 using an AP .75X
reducer (F/6.9) on the scope with a modded Canon XS and Lumicon Deep Sky filter.
I cropped and reduced in size.

Horsehead with TMB100/800

Posted By Thomas Davis

This is one I put together over three nights with a TMB100/800 using an AP .75X reducer and modded Canon XS, with a clip-on
Astronomik CLS filter. 4 1/2 hours of data (16x15m and 5x10m) at ISO1600. Stacking done with Deep Sky Stacker and final
tweaking with PhotoShop CS4. The scope was mounted on an AP900GT, and guided with a QHY5 Kwik guider and PHD. The last
2 1/2 hours of data (10x15m) were taken without darks, letting the hot pixel removal setting of DSS handle hot pixels
(which it did quite well.

Thanks, Tom

Rosette Nebula with AP180EDT at F/6.9

Posted By Thomas Davis

I don't get the whole nebula in, but I like the detail the longer focal length brings out. This is a picture
of the Rosette Nebula at about 1200mm FL with an AP180EDT mounted on an AP900GT guided by a QYH5 finder scope
guider using PHD guiding. The camera was a modded Canon XS at ISO1600 with an Astronomik CLS clip-on filter
installed. 6x20 minute exposures (2 hours total), no dark frames (temperatures in the 20s F), stacked with
Deep Sky Stacker, final processing PhotoShop CS4.

M45 TMB100/800 at F/6 amd CLS filter

Posted By Thomas Davis

I could never have gotten near as much nebulosity without a filter from my location. This
shot was taken at F/6 with a TMB100 using an AP .75X reducer. I used an Astronomik CLS
clip-on filter (there are other filters just as good or better. This is just the one I
have) in a modded Canon XS at ISO1600. I was able to go 20 minutes on exposures, whereas
4 or 5 minutes was pushing it without one. This exposure is 5 hours and 10 minutes total
(10x15 minutes, 8x20 minutes).

Horsehead from Florida

Posted By Thomas Davis

Got a chance to do some imaging while at the WSP in the Florida Keys last week. This is one of the Horsehead I took with
the AP180EDT at F/6.9 (AP .75X reducer) and a modded 1000D (XS) at ISO1600. It was made up of 8x10 minute exposures.

Omega Centauri

Posted By Thomas Davis

Got my first chance in 3 years to image Omega Centauri (NGC5139) last week with the AP180EDT at F/6.9. I used an unmodded
Canon XSi (450D) for this instead of my modded XS to gain the extra resolution and 14 bit versus 12 bit depth. The image
is made up of 12 exposures (3x30,60, 120 and 180 seconds stacked to create an HDR image).
