Two bad experiences

Posted By Ted Blank

This is my first post on any AM forum. Last year a person bought a mount from me here on AM. I sent the product once I was promised payment, as I frequently do (knowing the risk). Payment never arrived, but the buyer then complained the mount was broken upon arrival! (It really did work fine when I sent it carefully packed and insured.) So I put in a UPS claim, but the buyer refused to release the damaged mount to the UPS driver. (The details are publicly available in the feedback I gave this person.) Well, I eventually wrote this one off after repeated emails and no response.

A couple of weeks ago, I get a phone call from another AM member. He has sent the same person a money order for eyepieces, but once the money was sent no more communications, and no eyepieces! He just wanted to know if I had ever gotten my mount or money (nope). He has now documented his experience on this person's feedback.

I know there's nothing that will get me back my mount or his money, but at what point should an account be closed "for cause?" This is not some disagreement about whether something is BNIB or LNIB, this is outright fraud or certainly seems close to it.

Fountain Hills (AZ) Library Telescopes stolen

Posted By Ted Blank

On Monday evening, April 2, an adult male was observed on security footage walking out of the Fountain Hills branch library holding one of the Library Telescopes in each hand. They were on a table near the front desk, on hold waiting for the next patron on the wait list to pick them up. No-one in the library saw them leave.

You can see a picture of the library telescopes below.
. They have been extremely popular with the patrons. They are teal blue table-top alt-az 4.5" reflectors. The original Orion web site for them is here.

They are significantly modified, with an external (AA) battery case for the red dot finder, an 8-24mm Celestron zoom eyepiece (permanently attached with hex screws), and acorn nuts for the primary mirror adjustment screws (to keep little fingers from fiddling with the collimation).

If you happen to run across these either in person or on the web, please contact [email protected] and we'll inform the Maricopa County Sheriff's Dept.

Thanks,
Ted

Problems posting pics in ads

Posted By Ted Blank

I had the same problem last night, cannot post pics to my ad. Problem continues this morning.

After choosing a file to upload, each time click the "Upload" button I get the message:

The site encountered an error while loading the page you requested.

The site operators have been notified and will look into this problem as soon as possible.

Just wanted to confirm it's being looked at.

Thanks.
