Finderscope mounting

Posted By Matthew Egan

I want to add a finderscope mount for my zero power red dot finder, to compliment a 8X50 finder, to my 8" dobsonian. This seems simple enough, I own a drill. My only concerns are alignment and scrap from the drill getting down the ota, even if I turn it upside down. Is there some easy way for assuring the two are aimed straight down the OTA, as well as keeping my primary clean? Also, is there a preferred position for a second finder? If I'm making this too difficult for myself, please tell me. Thanks.

Celestron 102mm focus problem

Posted By Matthew Egan

I recently purchased a used 4" 500mm Celestron spotting scope. I wanted a second, smaller, quick peek/travel scope and had seen several people say this worked fine as a astro scope. There is nothing wrong with it, but I have one problem. I can't reach focus with the 2" eyepiece I tried on it, a 26mm GSO kellner. I do not yet have a 2" diagonal, so I put it straight in. The focuser does not go far enough in to reach focus, so it is not an issue of an extension tube or anything. I also have a Meade 32mm series 5000 2", but have been hesitant to put that in the focuser until I get a diagonal, because the focuser is sans compression ring. So, my questions are- 1. Will the 32mm have the same problem? 2. Will a 2" diagonal correct the problem, or would it be a waste of money? Thanks- Matt

Anybody with knowledge of B&l 8000?

Posted By Matthew Egan

Howdy- Just looking for some information. I have owned a B&L 8" sct for a year or so and am selling it. I know, I know, worst scope ever. Not really, this one has performed O.K. for me but I have no need for it's complexities with a 8" GSO dob already in the garage. So my question is this- If you want to attach a 2" sct diagonal to it, do you need a 2" visual back or converter or something? I got one cheap online recently and wanted to throw it on to the buyer. However, it is too wide (by a couple of mm at most) to screw on the threads on the back of the OTA. Is this because I am missing a piece or did Bauch and Lomb / Criterion use a different diameter than current standard to attach visual backs and accessories? If so is there a fix? Thank for fielding my nonsense.
