Wood tripod for Celestron c80 ED

Posted By Jim Idreos

I have decided to purchase a Celestron C80 spotting scope that I will use for casual terrestrial use and occasional look at the moon or a planet.
I live in a condo with an excellent eastern view of the Chesapeake, and will leave the scope on tripod permanently displayed in my living room, thus the reason I want the aesthetics of a wood tripod.
Based on the above considerations as well as decent stability I would appreciate any recommendations/opinions for a used tripod and mount.
Thanks for your help!

Can Barlow be used with spotting scope??

Posted By Jim Idreos

I'm thinking of buying a barlow for a Celestron C80 ED spotting scope.
I just read an older post which hinted that some small refractors may have difficulties
using a barlow.

Would this be the case with the C80 ED which is classified as a "spotting scope"??
Thanks for your help

Anyone using a Canon Powershot digital camera for

Posted By Jim Idreos

I have a Canon Powershot SD300 and would like to know if any of you is using it or a similar digital to take pics through your spotting scopes. Are there any brackets made for this camera to use when taking shots?? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks for your help!

Terrestrial viewing considerations

Posted By Jim Idreos

I have been reading much concerning eyepiece selection on these forums, but I have not read about any considerations concerning terrestrial viewing considerations.
I have ordered a Celestron C80 ED which I plan to use primarily for terrestrial viewing, and occasional planetary use.
All of the eyepiece discussions revolve around atronomical considerations.
Are there any eypiece considerations that would relate specifically to terrestrial telescope use??
Thanks for your help!

My new C80 cannot be mounted to my new Vixen Icaru

Posted By Jim Idreos

After a long wait and a backorder, I just received my Celestron C 80 ED OTA today and see I'm going to have a problem mounting it on my new Vixen Icarus-D Altazimuth Mount.

The C80 has a mounting clamp ring with a dovetail mount
As you can see in the attached photo the C80 cannot be mounted on the tripod head
The Celestron instructions advise mounting the scope on a photo tripod. I bought the Vixen as it was recommended to me as a sturdy stable tripod.
As a picture truly is wort a thousand words, please look at the attached picture

What can do to mount the C80 scope to the Vixen Icarus mount??

Thanks for your help to this frustrating problem
