C11 on EM-200

Posted By Stuart Croy

Hi everyone,

I'm currently considering buying a fairly cheap old Celestron C11. My current mount is a Takahashi EM-200 Temma2 Jr, which is rated for 16kg (35lbs). From what I've been able to find out, the C11 tube weighs 12kg (26lb). So, the OTA itself should be OK on this mount. I'm planning on piggybacking my Willy Optics Megrez 80FD (about 3kg/6.5lb). I'd like to be able to image with the Megrez piggy-backed on the C11 - so another couple of kgs for imaging equipment and maybe a bit more for counterbalance weights, I'm not sure.

This seems to be pushing it with this mount, though I have heard the weight limits on the Tak mounts are very conservative, and I don't plan on imaging with the C11 other than some planetary imaging with a webcam. I'd like to hear from anyone with a similar setup. I'm loathe to upgrade the mount as I just got it and am pretty happy with it.

I'd love an AP900 but I imagine they're quite pricey to get shipped over here in Japan, where Tak mounts are cheaper and good value.

Cheers,
Stuart

New Borg scope coming

Posted By Stuart Croy

There are some test shots on the Borg topics page (Japanese):

http://www.tomytec.co.jp/borg/world/topics2010/topics1001.html
http://www.tomytec.co.jp/borg/world/topics2009/topics0901.html

It is referred to as the 2010X2. Looks like it will be another small apo. They already have 45, 50, 60, 77, 101 and 125 apos, so it's hard to think what it could be other than a replacement for one of the existing models.

Cheers,
Stuart

Borg to no longer sell 77 achro or 101ED

Posted By Stuart Croy

Hi,

The news is on their site (in Japanese):
http://www.tomytec.co.jp/borg/world/topics2010/topics1001.html

They are going to focus more on optics for bird watching. All new stock of the 77/101ED are sold out, and now they're clearing out the "B-grade" (i.e. those with minor defects) scopes.

The translation from excite.co.jp is slightly less bizarre than the google one:

P.S. The vogue series was born in 1991. The age changed, and it became a flow that the wild bird demand exceeds the heavenly body demand now though the lineup was done in the astronomical telescope line at that time. I cannot help inevitably attempting the review of the lineup. BORG101ED that had become a best-seller in such a flow for the heavenly body surveying developed for the BORG77 achromat and astrophotography became a production stoppage. The person who thinks about the vogue series by a full lineup is a last chance. The stock of the new article is already selling all, and the stock of B goods has remained slightly. Please use this chance while executing the final disposal sale here and here without overlooking. → The sale corresponds and seems to sell. Please hurry up.

P.Neither inquiry nor the request for documents of [dejibo-gu] cuts the pull on the S.2 this day. An only heavenly body was not honestly in the situation of getting the Bang Bang inquiry from the beginner like one and this, etc. of the man female "It met [dejibo-gu] when looking for the lens that reflected better on the net though it took a picture of the wild bird while strolling" and "[Dejibo-gu] was, was able to do AF, and taught that HP was interesting in the field". It is different at all now though it was waste of the treasure though also has expertise also by us with great pains. It is an ideal situation that the experience and the knowledge of just obtaining help everybody at once. The blog and the bulletin board related to [dejibo-gu] exchange the user mutually similarly, and moreover, information is exchanged generously, and an indeed active communication is exchanged. To pile up the industry further, our company will do continuing turning on and a useful information sending of a new product. The pleasing taste doesn't have curettage so much. Let's enjoy it by you together. (10/01/21 Nakagawa)

Circle-T Japan Orthos

Posted By Stuart Croy

Hi folks,

This might not be of interest to many, but I enjoy satisfying my curiosity.

I recently found what I think is the manufacturer of these eyepieces in Japan: Tani Optics. These are available from most astro shops in Japan and I believe are the same eyepieces that University Optics sell.

This website has some photos:
http://www.starcloud.jp/hpgen/HPB/categories/43121.html

The first photo says "Tani Optical Research Laboratory" in Japanese. They are based in Itabashi ward in Tokyo.

The description on the third photo is something like "[These are the] very small lenses. The lenses are made to order by a Japanese lens maker". So, it seems the actual lenses are not made in house.

Searching on google.co.jp for these Orthos results in the usual high praise for sharpness.

I had always wondered who the circle-T folks were, thinking perhaps they were related to Towa, as they also used the circle-T logo. But it seems not. Tani means "valley" in Japanese. It's possible the area where they are based was called "something valley" in the past, I can't see a name like that on any maps of the area, and given the location on the Kanto plain it seems unlikely. Tani is a character used in surnames too, so it may be related the original owner.

Cheers,
Stuart

Some scopes, but no me

Posted By Stuart Croy

Just came across this forum.

Some of my scopes here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/croys/sets/72157625000292631/
and here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/croys/sets/72157623990221062/

I sold the Megrez, and Sky-90, but fell off the wagon again and got the Borg 71FL.

Clearly, I need help. :S

New Borg scope coming

So, it appears there are two new scopes - the 2010X1 and the 2010X2. The 2010X1 has just been "pre-announced" on the Borg blog. It will be officially announced with pricing later.

The 2010X1 is the new Borg 101EDII:
http://www.tomytec.co.jp/borg/world/topics2010/topics1001.html

There are some test photos taken with an Olympus E-3:
http://www.tomytec.co.jp/borg/world/sakurei09_bird/0912c/091229a.html

I suppose this isn't much of a surprise considering the recent discontinuation of the 101ED and 77 achro. The 2010X2 certainly doesn't look like an achro from the teaser shots.

Cheers,
Stuart
