My Little Observatory Project

Hello all.

Well, my observatory is nearly complete, and I've put together a page
or two with some notes and pics (more to come). The only thing left
to do with this project is to paint the outside walls and plant some
grass. All of my existing equipment has been configured and is ready
to go.

Once the new scope arrives, a 16" RCOS Ritchey Chretien reflector, my
setup will be complete. The Paramount ME arrived about 3 weeks ago.

Solar Image on 6/28/2003

Hi All, I was messing around with my SolarMax 40. My friend had a Nikon Coolpix 5000 and we had a couple of hours to kill.

Anyways, we didn't have any adapters to hold the camera in place, so we just held it up to the eyepiece and started shooting away.

Takahashi FSQ-106
1.6x Extender-Q
SolarMax 40 with Tuner
BF10
Nikon Coolpix 5000

NGC 206 in the Andromeda Galaxy

Hi all, here's a shot of NGC 206, a star cluster in one of the arms of the Andromeda Galaxy.

M31 Core and Dust Lane Detail

While the moon is out, I thought I would continue playing around in Andromeda. Here's the core and some dust lane detail.

Unfortunately, the moon ruined my color data.

Equipment: C-11, AP .67x Reducer, SBIG ST-10XME, Paramount ME.

Rocky Mountain Star Stare (6/22-6/25)

Well, it's that time of year again. The RMSS registration is in full swing.

This year's event is held from 6/22 - 6/25, approximately 60 miles from Colorado Springs at an elevation of 8,800 feet.

Pre-registration is open until May 22nd.

h-alpha pass filters....

Chances are, you won't be able to use your h-alpha filter on anything but the moon or nebulous structures.

I have a custom scientific filter with <4nm bandpass and yes, it will not pass most forms of light pollution and also be a good filter to use when imaging emission nebulas when there is a full moon.

Even with 20 minute sub-exposures, you will have extremely small stars and very few of them in your FOV.

Here is an example image I took, it is using the Custom Scientific filter and 160 minutes of LUM. This field is full of stars if you use any other RGB filter:
