C-90 or Ultima 80

Posted By Chet Cognigni

I am after a spotting scope for competitive target shooting, I want to see my hits on paper targets 6mm bullets holes at distances of 200-300 &500yds, I presently have the C-90 and with the standard eyepc (32mm) which is 38X I can get by at 200yds and sometimes 300yds depends on conditions, I was wondering If I would be better to trade up to a Celestron Ultima 80

thanks
Chet

C-90 eyepcs

Posted By Chet Cognigni

Hello

I was here a few weeks ago discussing a Celestron Ultima 80 to my C-90, I decided to keep the C-90 till I try some eyepcs, before I try another spotting scope.

I have a new Celestron C-90 that I use for target shooting sports, detecting bullet holes on paper targets at 200-300 &500yds, the C-90 has a 1200mm FL and came with a 32mm eyepc, which is about 38x I need more and less power, I need 30x and 60x, so what I had in mind was a 40mm lens and a 2 x Barlow, question I have is I tried a few eyepcs I borrowed a 20x plossi type and I was not thrilled with the clarity, IS this common, are there better eyepcs that will let me see the targets better especially at 300 &500 yds, Or am I trying to see something with a C-90 that it won't handle, Anyone have any opinions on the Celestron Ultima 80 will these be a better choice, need some opinions.

thanks
Chet

50mm x 1 1/4"

I have a Celestron C90 MAK and it came with 32mm eyepc, I am looking for 22 to 25 power and with a 1200mm focal lenght It looks like I need a 50MM x 1 1/4 and they are not easy to come by. would this be practical If I found a 50mm eyepc. would the clarity be there, or should I just get a spotting scope where 25 power is readily easier to get.
