Celestron Nexstar N-11: Landing pad

Posted By Mike Hoffa

I just purchased a Nexstar N-11. I read in a review that there is a device called a "landing pad" that makes it easier when installing the top assembly on the tripod. Does anyone know where I can get this? Its not listed on the Celestron web site.

Panoptic 27 or 35

Posted By Mike Hoffa

I will be purchasing a Panoptic very soon. I like the idea of the 35mm. I have heard great things about the 27mm also. I like good eye relief and my viewing is mainly deep sky clusters and nebs. Which would be the better one for my use??

Celestron Nexstar 11- Landing Pad

Posted By Mike Hoffa

For those who have purchased a Nexstar 11 GPS and have a difficult time aligning the three mounting holes, I have the answer. I purchased a device called a landing pad. I got it through Anacortes. It is made by Starizona. It has three angled "hands" that automatically guides the scope right down on the center pin. Here is the trick item. When its set down you just rotate the scope about 10 degrees and it drops into 3 detentes. Now your mounting holes are perfectly aligned for the bolts. It took about one minute to install and is made of 1/4 inch anodized aluminum. If you have a Nexstar 11 it is a must have and only costs $49.95!

Case for Nexstar 11 GPS

Posted By Mike Hoffa

I looked at the JMI caase and the handles look real wimpy for holding a 65lb.scope. Has anyone had experience with this hard case with a heavy scope? Did the hadles ever break? They look the same as briefcase handles. Hom many of those have you ssen break. I looked at another one for about $500, but the case itself weighs 50lbs! Any other ideas out there for light cases?

Refractor for my SCT

Posted By Mike Hoffa

What would be a good choice for a refractor to mount on my Celestron Nexstar 11GPS? I dont want to spend $2K, so something like an Orion would be nice. Any suggestions. I have never owned a refractor

Panoptic 27 or 35

Posted By Mike Hoffa

Thanks for the advice. I have a Celestron Nexstar 11. I went and bought the 35mm. I looked at the Nagler 31, but I liked the Panoptics eye relief, and also the price ($680 and another 100 for a counter weight....I dont think so). While I was at Scope City I also purchased a 18mm Radian and a Luminix 2"star diagonal, and a 2" UHC Filter. I'm pretty broke now. My wife still wants a Nagler 12 to 14mm. Maybe Christmas.
