grab and go scope

Posted By don george

can anyone give me their personal opinions for hands on experience with high quality grab and go scopes, and any comments on personal favorites, peripheral equipment, etc. ... my interest is in getting help (information without salesmanship) with the nexus on high capability, versatility, as well as true portability for my next scope.
cheers

c8 i

Posted By don george

does anyone have much hands on experience with the new celeston c8 i, with the single arm mount. can you tell me the plusses and minuses. is the arm and gearing rugged at all? any precision to this system? is the go-to accurate at all? is set up easy and convenient? is the tripod adequate... ?? is scope to scope quality an issue...the usual questions...

also can anyone tell me why virtually ANY sct, especially 8 inches and up, doesnt come STANDARD.. flocked as the additional cost would be virtually zero... with 2 inch mirror diagonal standard yet include the 1 1/4 adapter... the additional cost at the mfg end would be virtually nothing... and a large wheel slip on focuser to allow fine and normal focusing? why dont they keep the crummy finderscopes presently offered or at least sustitute a telrad?.. and especially with sct's offer a bob's knobs or equivalent system. all the above represent a pittance at the manufacturing level. just a combination of comments within questions.
cheers

astromart posting

Posted By don george

briefly this afternoon a c11 ota was posted for sale and only appeared ever so briefly. it looked meticulously and thoughtfully "sexed up", flocking, fans, focuser... just looked extremely well done. id like to know if anyone caught the name of the submitter as id like to compare notes on modifying my scope a bit...
cheers

my son is interested in getting a tak sky 90... does anyone have extensive experience with one, they seem pricey, but how do they stand up in comparisons with other high quality apo's... even in the 4 inch range?

nagler eyepieces in a spotting scope

Posted By don george

i have a compliment of nagler eyepieces for my astonomical scope, but due to *&*^*&# weather im now doing more daytime nature viewing and often in seashore environments. i am at present looking for a high quality spotting scope primarily due to its moisture protection.
the question i have regards dual purpose use with a high quality spotting scope. has anyone used a nagler 3, 4 or 5mm eyepiece for nightime use, and in "good seeing" with either a swarovski, zeiss, or leica 80mm spotter, and what were the results?
any response is appreciated.
cheers, don

spotter for night use

Posted By don george

im currently upgrading to either a zeiss, swarovski, or leica 80mm spotter... does anyone have a preference? also i have a compliment of nagler eyepieces and does anyone have experience in "good seeing" using the adapter for astronomical eyepieces, especially for casual night planetary or easy messier observing with 3, 4, or 5mm eyepieces?
im doing alot of nature and oceanside observing during the day as the whale migration has begun, and no longer will take my astronomical scope, and need the spotter due to its moisture protection.
