14m to 17mm binoviewer pair

Posted By Benjamin Marshall

Hi all. Looking for recommendations for binoviewer pair in the range 14mm to 17mm. Minimum 10mm eyerelief for something like a plossl. Prefer 60* plus FOV for general viewing but more concerned about performance for planetary and lunar viewing than for DSO. Must be good at the edge at F/7 (TEC 140 refractor). These will be used in a AP/Baader MarkV with and without barlow/corrector. My inter-occular seperation is 60mm so small is good! My current monocular stable includes 24mm pan, 18mm meade UWA, 13mm type 6 nag, 11mm type 6, 7mm type 6, 5mm type 6, and 4mm BO/TMB planetary. In the past I've owned and liked the UO volcanic top orthos but these don't cover the range of interest. Experience with these suggest that somewhat less than 10mm eye-relief is OK for a volcanic top eyepiece (the 9mm ortho was very comfortable). I've also owned and liked a 32mm TV plossl but as I recall useable eye-relief in the 15mm plossl is below 10mm. I'm really looking for something with the performance and comfort of the BO/TMB for binoviewing. I hope this isn't a futile quest. Thanks in advance.

Tom.

12mm to 14mm eyepieces for binoviewing

Posted By Benjamin Marshall

Hi all. I previously asked about 14mm to 17mm eyepieces but after extensive experimentation with single eyepieces I've adjusted the desired focal length range for binoviewing. Now I'm looking for 12mm to 14mm eyepieces for general purpose binoviewing (relatively small and light eyepieces). Want excellent contrast and all-around excellent performance. Not looking for UW fields but 60+ degree. Looking for impressions, suggestions about the 14mm denk, 13mm T6 nagler, and 12mm Pentax XF (or any others folks want to suggest). I'm primarily into planetary and lunar but really don't want to give up the contrast/transmission needed for faint DSO. The scope is a 140mm F/7 APO. Thanks.

14m to 17mm binoviewer pair

Thanks to all who responded. I'll probably start with 15mm plossls and possibly later look into the 14mm radian or perhaps the 14mm Denks. I was surprised no one suggested these. Has anyone here used the 14mm denks? Thanks.
