Celestron 4" Refractor Conversion

Posted By Edward J. Portka

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to convert this refractor to using 2" Eyepieces in lieu of 1/-1/4". Also...how to adapt this refractor to a TeleVue TelePod Panoramic Mount? It is on a Super Polaris Equitorial Mount now.

Need ideas or sources on how to mount a Celestron 4" f/9 refractor on either of the subject mounts. Discussions with TeleVue and others has shed no new light. Has anyone out in the equipment world experienced this or have constructive ideas? Appreciate any help...Thank you!

Where does one find the above mount capable of carrying a 4" refractor thats about 38" long and weighs 8.0#? I have been told that Vixen has one called a "Custom D", but its not available in this country. Any thoughts anyone?

Vixen made Celestron 4" APO Refractor F/L 900mm

Posted By Edward J. Portka

Has anyone out there replaced the standard 1/1/4" focuser with a 2" focuser on this scope? I would love the flexibility of changing EP's. This is a vintage early 90's scope and may not be able to convert....all replies appreciated.

Need Eyepiece recommendations

Posted By Edward J. Portka

I have a 4"APO refractor with a F/L of 900mm and F/ratio of 8.8. What are my best choices for three eyepieces of low, medium and high power. I wear glasses (not always) and have some astigmatism(not bad). Price should not enter in the choices you recommend. I have a quality scope and it needs quality eyepieces. My focus is on luner and planets. Your recommendations will be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Used Equipment Prices Vs. Retail

Posted By Edward J. Portka

I generally agree with most of the posts on this subject, but remember there is used equipment which actually is appreciating in value because it is no longer available and hard to find. Supply and demand only goes so far.....how bad do you want it,or need it plays a big part. Just my two cents!

Celestron f/8.8 SP-C102F

John.....I have this exact scope and would stack it up against any refractor with the same aperture thats on the market today. It's a classic and will become more so as time goes on.

I have it mounted on a UniStar heavy deluxe mount attached to a Bogen/Manfrotto 3058 tripod. The entire rig looks custom made.

I'm the original owner....purchased the scope and Super Polaris mount back in 1993. Sold the SP mount because of it's weight...getting too much for me and I wanted an Alt/Az mount. Looking back ...I should have kept it...now I would have two great mounts to go along with a superb telescope.

John if you need any further info on this scope...feel free to contact me.
