Re: Collimation

From my primitive understanding of Maksutov optics that seems to make no sense. You should see it off center inside or outside of focus. Fiddling usually leads to trouble. Maybe you should contact Orion about the problem. Most Maksutovs do not allow for collimation. I am not familiar with this Orion scope so I cannot specifically advise.

Re: Who do you believe?

Bush lied and 100s of thousands died. In Obama's case his alleged lie will not kill anyone. Did you have an impeach Bush banner when Bush's weapons of mass deception were exposed?

Don't get me wrong, Obama will lie. He demonstrated this in the debates when he was asked, "is Russia once again the evil empire?" This was after the "Russian invasion" of Georgia which was actually a counter attack in retaliation for the Georgian incursion into Ossetia. Of course Washington OKd this offensive move. Bush sat smugly in Beijing at the Olympics in full knowledge of the offing. Obama replied to the question in the expected and universal American lie, "that Russia was doing evil things." More American meddling covered with the usual American untruths. Obama lost my support due to that in addition to renigging on his promise to normalize relations with Cuba.

I voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, 2004, and 2008. I never expected him to win as liars in this country are guaranteed victory. However some of the lies told are far more harmful than others.

As the Obama Socialist Revolution continues some who are the target of the lefties are starting to revolt. Isn't it great?

The socialists are doing their best, but there are many who will resist until Obama and his socialist policies are thoroughly defeated. Obama's socialist and liberal policies are not in the best interest of this country. Let us hope that these policies are completely discredited and fail miserably. As the nonpartisan CBO said, Obama's plans will do more harm than doing nothing.

I watch CNBC regularly and viewed Santelli's rant live. We have travelled the road of his ideology (and the investor class's) precisely and where has it gotten us? Unregulated free markets have shown unquestionably that runaway greed is a failure. The system is being propped up by public subsidy paid by those who have not shared in that opulent wealth. Do you think that is fair? And what is unfair about the socialist creed, "from each according to his ability and to each according to his work"? Or even the communist creed, "from each according to his ability and to each according to his needs"? Santelli is no rebel, but only showboating and a proponent of the old and failed ideology. He warps and distorts the terminolgy "revolution". The people very much need socialism, but sadly their new "champion" will not deliver it. Tell us Jim who can leasd us out of the economic debacle that we find ourselves in? Face it this obsolete socio-economic system must be trashed and mankind must evolve to a new system where economic justice and logic prevails.

Re: Stock Market Gives Obama’s First Month An 'F'

I do not know who this lady is, but the message that she is delivering is accurate:

Clearly, it is way too early for any of the new stabilization and stimulus programs to have taken effect. Why then is the consensus so pessimistic? Certainly the political wrangling of the past month has dispelled optimism that President Obama can change the contentious nature of American politics. Both Democrats and Republicans have spurned Obama’s leadership. The free-for-all over the stimulus bill portrayed Congress in the worst possible light — no surprise there — and led Americans to view not only the process but the bill with utter skepticism. Delivering a 1000-page bill to our legislators just two hours before the signing deadline (and then going on a long-weekend holiday before signing it) was outrageous. The mortgage relief plan hasn’t been received much better. Most Americans (ninety two percent, by some estimates) pay their mortgages on time; they’re darned if they know why they should bail out their neighbors.

The White House scramble has led to creeping fear that we’re dealing with the Junior Varsity. I’ve even heard people pining for former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson — hard to imagine, right?

I remember the stock market ralley the day that Obama fingered Tim Geithner as Secretary of the treasury. Go ahead and look it up for verification. Obama's policies of looting the treasury to keep afloat the holdings of the investor class can in no way be construed as socialism. This is exploitation of the many for the benefit of the few. The market itself is focusing on its internals and is coming to the realization that it is headed for total collapse. The lion's share of the seven thousand point drop from its highs took place during the W administration. So why is this "biatch" (thank you my black brothers) giving Obama an F? If Obama deserves an F doesn't W deserve a cell at Guantanamo? grin

This article is a load of crapola seething in economic and political bias! If that bias matches your own though it will slide down your throat like butter. grin

I guess this suffices for political debate in America. By the way is someone paying you for your excessive anti-Obama rants? You are being overpaid if so. Give it a little substance such as Obama is the incarnation of the bubonic plague, herpes, and the antichrist all rolled into one dark dark package. I have actually been approached by one right wing nut case who sincerely believes Obama to be the anti-christ. America the land of the fee, the home of the knave, and the politically illiterate. grin

If you haven't noticed the American highway system is in a shambles. Revenue needs to be raised somehow to repair the crumbling system. Some of the interstate highways look like 3rd world roads and not the byways of a 1st world country. Obviously not enough revenue is being generated by the gasoline tax, but resources are being squandered elsewhere like the 3 trillion dollars spent to secure the Iraqi oil reserves for future American oil company profits. Hows about the oil industry foot the bill for the military expenditures spent in their behest. That seems more than fair for the worlds second largest oil reserves. Whoa I can see those Exxon mobil shares plummetting in value already.

Fujinons down under

A beautiful pair of the older style Fujinon 16X70s for sale on Astromart. The only drawback is that they are in Australia. If they were CONUS I would snatch them up right away. sad http://www.astromart.com/classifieds/details.asp?classified_id=613407

Re: Finally

Jim, You are not going to buy into today's sucker ralley are you? Some of the worst economic news ever was released today and yet the market was up 236 points. Bernanke's droning mantra had little if anytjhing to do with this irrational positive swing. More leftover "irrational exuberance" or the last throes of a dieing bull market? You can't teach an old bull new tricks. These rip saw moves come periodically, but the overall trend is a stairstep down into the abyss. Some are forecasting a 5500 point DOW. I think that is entirely too optimistic. My crystal ball tells me a 3500 to 3800 point DOW when the whip comes down. Remember what Rothschild said, "Do not buy until blood is flowing in the streets."

UO ortho Abbe or HD?

Posted By Erwin Miller

It seems the 9mm focal lenth is the sweet spot in magnification for the seeing in my locale. I cannot often go over that magnification. I have a Nagler 9mm T6 and an old Meade 9mm orthoscopic, but wish to exploit this magnification range more with eyepieces in this focal length. I plan on purchasing the Pentax 10mm XW from Herb (somebody's got to pay for all of this free speech), but I also plan on a 9mm ortho from UO. I have UO's 4,5,and 6mm so know that they are of a reasonable quality at a more than reasonable price. Who has directly compared the Abbe and the HD and is the HD worth the extra $20.00 of expenditure?
