Refractor Collimation?

Hi,

I’ve been working on making my refractor a better scope and am currently working to improve the view. I am wondering if anyone knows how to properly collimate these things? My scope is a Skywatcher 120mm at f/8.3, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Artificial Star ?

I was wondering if anyone had any info on creating artificial stars for telescope alignment purposes? I’ve heard they work great but cannot find much on construction of the device.

Diagonal Question

This might be a dumb question, but it's one I've wondered a bit about. Does a mirror diagonal effect focal length differently than a prism diagonal? I wonder because I noticed a difference in focusing when switching from a prism diagonal to a mirror.

QuickCam CCD Help

Hi,

I recently built a pair of QuickCam CCD cameras for my telescope but am now having problems getting them to focus right. Each time I focus or even fine focus, I get a blurry picture at best. I can make out some of the larger craters of the moon but beyond that not much else. Does anyone have any ideas what else I could modify to help the problem?

Prism vs Mirror Diagonals

Hi all,

Just wondering which of these are the best as far as seeing quality goes. I've had a lot of good luck with the prism diagonals and the mirrors that I have looked through weren't the best of quality. I was just wondering if there are any hard facts as to which is better or if it's simply a matter of opinion?

Eyepiece Question

This is probably a dumb question but it's one that I’ve been curious about for a long time. I've been thinking of upgrading to a better set of eyepieces (Ultrawides, Panoptics....) How well do these eyepieces perform with a 120mm refractor? I've not, as of yet, had the chance to test them myself but love he view they provide form scopes at star parties equipped with them. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

DSC Help

Hi, I've been trying to setup digital setting circles for my Skywatcher 120. The problem is that I cannot seem to mount the Lumicon encoders I have to the mount, in order to make the DSC work. Does anyone have any advice for mounting encoders to an EQ-3 or similar mount?

Synta Refractor Collimation

Hi all,

I ‘m sure this has been posted before, I’ know some folks had sent me info on it before but I’ve since lost it and it’s becoming an issue with my scope again. I’m looking for any information anyone my have on collimating a 4.7” F/8.3 Synta refractor (it's the older design with the non adjustable doublet). My planetary views used to be really sharp but over the lat few years (and many star parties) the sharpness has been decreasing a little, making me wonder if the scope is out of alignment. If anyone knows some way to do this, please let me know.
