meade super plossl

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

I have two meade plossl. They came with my 8" newt about 4 or 5 years ago. One, the 26mm has orange writing and says made in taiwan. It does not say Series 4000. The 9.7mm has yellow writing and says 4000 series, but does not say were it was made. Are these the not so good ones or are they the good ones? They don't say made in China, but the don't say made in Japan.Anyone know?

Dob views vers. A APO

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

I have a 8" and 10" Orion f5 Dobs. I have NP101, and have been comparing the dobs against the APO on Jupiter. Both Dobs are a litte fuzzier than the APO. The moons are not nice and tight like the APO. The question I have is this way it is on all reflectors? Is it maybe my mirrors. I have though about sending the 10" mirror off to Swayze to be test or refigured. Any one have any ideas.

Canon Rebel vs the 20d

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

I have never done any astrophotography and am wondering what I would be giving up if I was to buy the new rebel instead of the 20d. Any opinions?

Np101

I am thinking about selling a Solar 60mm filter and my NP101. With the money I was thinking of getting a TEC140. I am visual observer.

TOA130 or NP127

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

grin Well I feel funny bring this up, but I sold a nice 4" apo and a lot of other things to buy a TOA130 here on Astromart. I just ordered a m6 Stellarvue mount from OPT. I have not looked through it yet. I also bought a NP127 1st generation. Its not here yet. I am a visual only now. One has to go or I go. The wife speaking. Any ideas as to which should go. I am not making this up as you will see one for sale soon. I am leaning on keeping the NP127 without looking at yet. The Tak is visually beautiful just to look at. Better than any painting you could put in the living room. She lets me keep them in the living room area. honest.

TV-76 or Orion ED 80mm?

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

You are going to like the Tv76 a lot. I have a NP101 which is a nice scope. I bought a TV76 for a trip to South America. I had a Bogen 3001 tripod that I put the scope on. It worked fine. I took out the eye piece foam of the soft carry case and broke down the tripod to fit in it. I divided the case with card board and a little bubble wrap. Makes a nice air plane carry on. This fell off the luggage cart in the Buenos Aries Airport and is ok. At home quess which scope I grab and haul outside to take a fast took at the sky. Not the NP101. I also have a Orion Atlas 8. It is big and I can mount a 30'06 deer rife, 12 guage bird gun, a 12 guage securit gun, a roof nailer, Np101, altas 8 and a Tv76 all a the same time. Only as long as there is no nagler 31 in the Tv's. I love looking at the TV76. It is well made.

Star test and focus on FSQ?

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

I can't believe no one as answered you. Over on the refractor forum they are in a big discussion on collimation. Try putting your question over there. I don't own a Tak scope, but from what I hear they are supose to be spot on. I have a NP101 which is a 4 element design like yours and it collimates like they say. I have heard people just rave about the 106. Doesn't sound right to me.

MEADE Starfinder 12.5" or ORION XT12" ?

Posted By Carl (Tom) Gall

I have the Orion xt 10". The focuser on the Harding scope is really nice. I replaced the focuser on my Orion. That ran the price up. The 10" are much easier to move around.
