If not Ebony Star, Then.....?

Posted By Jeff Gittinger

Is there another material that performs close to ebony star, but is very easy to find in small quantities? I understand pebbled formica (like ebony star) works well. Is there a second best? Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Barlow Lens

Posted By Jeff Gittinger

I have had the Orion Shorty Plus for a little more than a year, and I would definitely recommend this barlow. It is very clear and sharp, I don't notice any difference when using it other than a higher magnification. It only requires about 1/4 inch focuser movement (in) when switching from an eyepiece to barlow/eyepiece.
It is not threaded for filters, if that is a consideration for you.

Celestron's Ultima and Meade's #140 both get good reviews too, but with the sale Orion's is the best deal right now. All three are APO barlows. Get the Orion, and let us know what you think. My bet is you will like it.

EQ Mount Movement

Posted By Jeff Gittinger

I also have a Skyview Pro mount, and when the levers are locked there is no movement at all, very stable.
Are the two azimuth fine adjustment knobs tightened down? These are located on the mount just above the N on the tripod leg. If that isn't it, I'm not sure what it would be. Is the movement in the RA or Dec axis, or somewhere else?
