orion 120 eyepiec recommendation

Posted By Gary Davidson

Just bought a new Orion 120 refractor (1000mm focal length). It came with 2 Plossil eyepieces (10mm and 25mm) I need an image erector and more power. Do I go with a barlow lense or a smaller focal length eyepiece? I want good image quality. Any recommendations including what image erector to buy? How good are the original eyepieces? Thanks. New to the reflector game.

Orion 120eq eyepiece recommendations

Posted By Gary Davidson

Just bought a new Orion 120 EQ refractor with the 10MM and 25MM Plossil eyepieces. What would be better for higher power, a barlow lens (and what kind) or a smaller, quality eyepiece? Also, I need to buy an image erector for terestrial use. Any ideas there? How good are the standard eyepieces and how much difference would a quality one make? Thanks

moving from Orion Astroview120EQ to 8" or 10"

Posted By Gary Davidson

Contemplating selling my Orion Astroview 120EQ and getting an Orion 8" or 10". I live in a suburban area with street lights. How much difference would I notice? I never looked through a big DOB before. No interest in photography so Eq mount is a hinderance and I like the idea of the eyepiece on top. I am mechanically inclined so collimation should be no problem. Thanks.

Thinking of moving to 8" or 10" DOB from refractor

Need your advice. I have an Astroview 120EX by Orion. Thinking of moving to an Orion 8" or 10" DOB. I live in a semi-light polluted area (streetlights). What difference would I notice? I never looked through a big DOB before. I mostly look at the planets and Moon, but might try deeper sky stuff. I am very mechanically inclined so collimatin no problem and size not either. I guess I am asking, will there be that much of a difference to warrent the change? Thanks

Thanks Kenny, I am really asking for two different devices. I am going on vacation and wanted something to erect the image. I also want higher power than the 100 that came with the 10mm eyepiece. I was wondering should I get the 2X barlow (and which one) or should I get a high quality eyepiece to yield 200X or a little more. I guess I don't know how good the eyepieces are that came with the scope. I was going to use the image erector with the 25MM eyepiece that came with the scope.
