Worm Gears & Drives for GEM

Posted By Vishnu Kanupuru

Hi Everyone,

I am building small GEM for doing widefield imaging (28mm-400mm) both CCD and Film. Are there any commercial sources where I can buy worm gears and drives (cheap) for this mount.

Solar Imaging: Filter Help

Posted By Vishnu Kanupuru

Hi

I am a new to solar observing and imaging. I got a small sheet of Baader Solar Filter (Photographic) from a vendor and I am using it with an 80mm F/5 scope reduced to 35mm central aperture. I am using just a single layer but the sun seems to be way too bright to even take a glance. In fact my eye hurts if I try to focus the image for more than 20 secs. Is this normal for baader filters? Is the sun in photographic filters brighter than visual ones.
Any help is appreciated.

Webcam Advice

Posted By Vishnu Kanupuru

Hello Everyone,

I finally took a plunge and ordered a Quickcam Pro 3000 which was within my budget for some planetary imaging. Any suggestions on accessories (apart from the 1.25" adapter), software would be helpful.

Film for Venus Transit

Posted By Vishnu Kanupuru

Hello Everyone

I am planning to photograph the venus transit event this June. My equipment is 12-inch LX200 F/10 (3 inch off-axis aperture), Baader Visual solar filter and Pentax Spotmatic. What film would be best for this event? I am looking for good color representation and detail like sun spots and Venus ofcourse.

Time Signal on Webcam

Posted By Vishnu Kanupuru

Hello everyone

Is there any software that can put a time stamp on webcam images as we take them? I am planning to use webcam for Venus transit so was wondering if there is a way to get the time signal from my PC on each frame apart from using costly video overlays.

Camera: Fuji finepix s5000 @ 200 ASA and eyepiece projection with 40mm eps and homemade adapter.
Single shot processed in registax
