26mm Nagler Type V

Posted By Christopher Wilson

This eyepiece sounds awfully tempting. Since they are so new, I was wondering if anyone has purchase one and what kind of performance they are getting from it?

Field of View for Panning

Posted By Christopher Wilson

I have used an eyepiece on my scope that provided me with a 2.2 degree fov. I found this sufficient for easily locating objects (I have no computer). Do to off axis degradation, I am considering moving to an eyepiece with a little higher power, but the fov will only be 1.75 degrees.

I would be interested to know whether you feel that this will be adequate for easily locating objects. Because the 2.2 degrees was adequate, I have not used a finder scope.

Future Radians

Posted By Christopher Wilson

Does anyone know if there are plans to extend the Radian line of eyepieces. Specifically, I was hoping they would come out with a 16mm. I know, the naglers have a 16mm and 17mm, but would like something between the 14mm and 18mm Radian.

I have read a lot about Mike Spooner mirrors, and am interested in purchasing one. Have not been successful in finding out how to contact him on the internet. Does anyone know how I can reach him?

24mm Pan vs 21mm SMC XL

Posted By Christopher Wilson

Has anyone done a comparison between these two eyepieces. Principal interest is light transmission and off axis sharpness. Appreciate any assistance you can give.

newtonian focal plane

Posted By Christopher Wilson

Does the eyepiece on a newtonian scope normally focus on the contracting focal plane (ahead of focus) or on the expanding focal plane (behind focus)?

Thanks in advance

Fully illuminated fov

Posted By Christopher Wilson

I have a 2.1" secondary that provides a 1/2" fully illuminated fov. If you can still not experience much vignetting with an 80% illuminated fov, does this mean that the maximum field stop I can effectively us is .625" or 15.9mm? I not, please explain the concept of fully illuminated fov.

Thanks

altitude gauge

Posted By Christopher Wilson

I have a homebuilt dobsonian scope that I purchased. Am thinking about putting setting circles on it to help locate items. Does anyone know how I can make an accurate altitude gauge or where I might find some instructions on this? An azimuth gauge is not so difficult, but can no figure out the specific dimension for the altitude.

Thanks
