Saturn and M1

According to my"The Sky" program, Saturn and M1 are right next to each other. In fact, last night Saturn was "on top of" M1 (no dirty jokes now guys!). If I can drag myself outside early Saturday morning, I'll take a look. Might make an interesting photograph? I know there is a great difference in brightness- but who knows. It might be worth a try by you fellows that take those beautiful photos. Gerry F

Rob- If short eye relief isn't a problem, I would recommend a Brandon or Clave(if you can find any). If you need eyerelief then the Radians are your best bet. I have three of them and they're great. Some color around the edge of field but very sharp and contrasty. Gerry

I saw the Space Station for the first time last night. It only lasted about 45 secs. It traveled from near Cassiopia to Andromeda and was as bright as Deneb. Man that thing is fast! I'm in New Jersey and it was right on time as predicted. If you want to know when it will be passing over your area go to --- spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/ and put in the nearest large city.

Burgess focuser knife edge baffle

Does anyone have a knife edge baffle in their Burgess focuser? My question is- how far down the drawtube should the baffle go? I would assume it goes down far enough to the point before it starts to vingnette the image. It doesn't come with instructions and before I e-mail Bill Burgess, I figured I post the question on this forum. Thanks in advance for any help. Gerry F.

TV BIG Barlow vs 2x Powermate

I noticed that TV now has a 2x powermate. I'm sure they're both excellent but was wondering if it would be worth the extra money to buy the Powermate. It this point, it would be for visual use only. Any feedback would be appreciated. Gerry Feulner

Digital camera and Mars

Hi Everyone; I've been enjoying all the wonderful photos of Mars on this forum, and although I've been an avid observer for over 40 years, I just recently bought a beautiful Olympus C-740 digital camera and have this question to ask. I found out just now that I can easily fit the camera into an extention tube and mount it in the drawtube of my 6" refractor. There would be no eyepiece in the drawtube but the lens is a ten power optical zoom. Would this alone be enough magnification to get a usable image of Mars? I plan on actually trying it out but the weather on the east coast lately has been dismal to say the least. Thanks in advance for any info. Gerry Feulner

picture size

I took some beautiful shots of the lunar eclipse tonight (if I don't say so myself) and when I tried to post them on this forum, they came out LARGE and "pixelated". They were just aweful so I deleted the post. I used my 6" refractor and a 3 megapixel Olympus C740. Any suggestions on how to reduce the size would be appreciated. Thanks
