Re: Double stacked SM40 instructions

Use the outermost etalon to tune any spurious reflections outside your eyepiece's field of view. Once that's done, you needn't adjust the outer etalon ever again. Use the inner etalon as you always did - to adjust the sweet spot of maximum contrast and to compensate for doppler shifts.

stacked sm 40 vs unstacked

Since I've double-stacked my MaxScope 40, I would never go back to a single etalon. The improvement in contrast and enjoyment in observing is well worth the investment.

My wife and I are going with Astronomical Tours. They've just added a second tour to Egypt.

W.O. 4mm Uwan

Posted By Rick Vargo

Roger,

I purchased a 4mm UWAN for lunar/planetary use with my 80mm Megrez APO. It provides very nice views with no kidney-bean blackouts. Edge performance is almost as good as my 5mm Pentax XW, and it provides a little more magnification while being smaller and lighter than the Pentax. I plan to keep mine and can recommend it.
