Orion XT10 or Celestron Starhopper 12Posted By Robert Reitmeyer |
Hello Fellow Astronomers!
I've been attacked by the "aperture fever" bug, and i can't find a long term cure except for this. I'm currently using a 1976 Celestron C8 Orange Tube telescope, that was generously given to me by some wonderful friends. I'll i had to do was clean is up, give is a makeover, and take it out. The optics are in perfect shape, but like i said i want a bigger scope. I'm deciding between the Orion XT10 Dob, and the Celestron Starhopper 12, and so i turn to you guys for some input. I'm looking to spend no more the $1000.
The other thing i want to do is mount a 80mm refractor to the scope, due to, i enjoy low power wide field sweeps now and then, and i don't want to run back and forth, scope to scope, just to see what i was looking at. 8) So, now, price was another factor. The Orion XT10 dob comes in at $549, which leaves me money for the 80mm refractor setup i want, which is the Orion Astrophoto Guidescope Package. I like that setup, due to the fact that is has the scope rings and mounting plate, plus a few other goodies if i want to go CCD in the future. The Celestron Starhopper 12 comes in at $925, with shipping, and i would have to spend $300 more for the 80mm. The question i have is which will be "better bang" for the buck. All i care about is deep space hunting, Seeing, and clarity, ie. how sharp an object appears is also important.
Also, moving up from a C8 to a 10" Dob, will i see a difference in brightness, or "how well" i see an object? 8O
Thank you very much for your time.
Robert
