Best settings for digital Photos??

I have a NIKON 800 CoolPix and will be attempting to take some shots of Mars next week. I have a 14mm. threaded EP I got from ScopeTronx My 1st try was unsuccessful, got an image that looked like spikes & sun rays radiating off the Plantet, however shots of the moon the same evening were excellent.. is there a certain setting I should be using? thanks for any suggestions.. Anyone Else Having trouble with Mars??

Thought it was my scope out of Col.( Celestar 8" /TV Everbrite Dia..) but it is dialed right in. When Mars reaches it's highest point in the South/Southwest I start with a relatively low power (68x)EP, 30mm. 2" Apogee WideScan II. I get a Yellowish Orb. Increase the power with a UO 7mm. Ortho (290x) and I get a bigger Yellowish orb with the faintest hint on color variation towards the center of the planet. Could it just be "Bad Seeing" ? Almost like trying to focus Venus clearly..John Meiners, Astoria, OR

Couldn't believe it when I read the ad in the classifieds!
Under (filters) $12,500.00 for a special 1 1/4" filter that lets you see extreme detail on the Surface of Mars. Well that was the cost NASA paid originally for the technology.. since then the price has come down to a mere $500. and finally in the hands of some lucky Astro-marter for the pocket change of $250. Just returned from a 2 night stay, Thru 28 & Fri 29th.
arrived a 5K' elevation Thursday around 1600 hrs. skys cloudy & Smokey! especially in the SW. Was limited Viewing the 1st. night.. Friday however was clear enough to see all DSO's . The sun set in a dark blood red color as it slide Westward, reminded me of the Coronado Alpha/H filter view, only thing missing was the expected Solar prominences. Here is a shot of the sky evening of the first night . JM

Going Price for older TV EP. ??

Not too long Ago I traded my UO MK-70 2" 25mm EP for an older Tele-Vue 2" 40mm. WideField. I called NY. and found out this EP is no longer in production, it was the predecessor to the Panoptic 35mm. It looks like and is as "HEAVY" as my 20mm. 2" Nagler (boat-anchor) the 40mm. is not a Plossl as once I thought, but rather a "WideField"
anyway, was wondering what its value $ on today's market would be? Ballpark? ( Optics Mint ) normal cosmestic wear.

Here is a Unique design, two 22" Mirrors matched and adjusted to align with bino-Vue type EP holders. I viewed M-31 through this scope, Wow! Dust lanes! when both fields were merged into one field the 3-D effect was wonderful. JM

Says 25mm. Plossl on back side.. lens has a slight Rose hue shade coating.. (very nice EP) Got it in a trade awhile back, gentleman did not know brand.. *thank you, JM
