This was in the local paper last week. Comparing what Adams and especially what Jefferson said to where Obama and the Democrats are taking us... Well I think Adams and Jefferson would be calling for another revolution. We now own GM and the amount of debt the Democrats plan to add is unreal. Those of you who voted for "change", well you got it, hope you like it.

I got this new toy with some extra money I got for being at my job 20 years. I just love it. I never thought looking at the Sun would be this cool and fun. It's especially nice since I have only been able to use my 11" SCT two times since May (mostly typical Mid-Atlantic summer skies or work). Watching the prominences change in not much time is neat. I can't wait for the Sun to be more active.

Jupiter 8-4-09 Good Seeing

I don't get good seeing in Maryland too often. Last night though the sky came through. I took 20 shots of Jupiter. This is the first one I've processed. It's a stack of 400 frames using a Celestron Neximage, a 2x barlow, and a Celestron 11" SCT. I stacked it with Registax 5. I'm going to rerun it with a second alignment point on Io which will hopefully make the moon rounder.

Anyone else plan on seeing this movie. It opens next week. The trailers look good and I think the concept is interesting. Peter Jackson has made very good films in the past. I hope this one is good too.

Jupiter Animation from 8-4-09

It took me a while to get around to putting my 15 frames from Aug 4th together. I did this in photoshop 7. Since my 11" is alt/azm mount I first had to rotate each image. I'm a little off in a few but I'm pleased with the results. You can also see the seeing improve and then start to fade.

What's your source for this? I highly doubt this is true. The distribution of the vaccine should be directed by the CDC to areas most effect and people most is danger such as the very young and seniors first(I think it is being done this way, but I'm not 100% sure.

1500th different NGC observed.

I spent some of this weekend catching up my observation log spreadsheet. I found that on November 7th I observed my 1500th different NGC Object. Number 1500 was NGC 7398. It is a mag. 13.6 galaxy which I described as a: Small faint oval with some core brightening, in the same 255x FOV as 7396.

I added some more to my total last night bringing it to 1546. It breaks down as:
1173 Galaxies
82 Globular clusters.
53 Nebula
162 Open Clusters
76 Planetaries.

If the sky permits I hope to get to 2,000 by some time in 2011. I love this hobby. There are endless things to see.
