G11 case

Posted By Steve Sands

Hi Andre,

I use a Pelican 1650 case for my G11 head. It is built like a tank, has wheels, and is watertight.

Anacortes is a Pelican dealer!

Hope this helps....Steve 8)

How do I report a rip-off?

Posted By Steve Sands

Hi Chuck,

Sorry to hear about your problem. Sponsoring businesses can not rate or be rated. I just looked in the list of AM sponsoring vendors and do not even see GCS Astronomical there. If they are still a sponsoring vendor, I would contact Herb and see if there is anything he can do to intervene. If they are not, I would send a registered letter to the vendor outlining the problem and how you want it resolved.

Hope this helps!
Steve

Inspect thoroughly before rating!

Linton,

Sorry you experienced this problem.

At the very least, you can always go out and delete the rating you gave this person. :S

Stupid question but....

Posted By Steve Sands

Rob,

Go to the "Account Menu" on the left side of the screen, go down to the RATINGS box, select UNUSED RATINGS. If you have replied to an ad or had an ad replied to, you have the ability to rate the person. If so, you will be able to rate them there.

Sorry, this does not qualify as a stupid question! You will have to try harder!

Hope this helps!

Steve

Buying Truss poles

Posted By Steve Sands

Hi Bill,

Moonlite carries truss poles which they anodize. I don't think they will be cheaper than $18 a pole, though. Considering postage & handling and the logistics of shipping an 8 foot piece of tubing, a local purchase sounds better & better!

You probably won't get many responses to this query. Most folks wouldn't touch this topic with a 10 foot pole! 8)

Ad in one name rating comments in another name

There is not enough information in this post to really make any judgement calls. If you would like to privately send me information about the ad(s)and/or users involved I can take a look at what you are referring to. Thanks!

Eye-pieces for Denkmeier Binoviewers

Posted By Steve Sands

Hi Hans,

I use 24mm TV Panoptics and the Denk 21mm eyepieces. With a two arm Denk Powerswitch, one doesn't need much more. That allows for 3 different magnifications with one pair of eyepieces. I also have a pair of 15mm TV Panoptics, but they don't get much use since I purchased the Denk eyepieces! When I started using the 24mm Pans, I thought I had the ultimate eyepiece for the binos. But when I attended NEAF and had a chance to use the Denk 21mm eyepieces I was amazed. They are a bit pricey but worth every penny!

Anodized Aluminum

You might want to check with Ron Newman at Moonlite Telescope Accessories. They have a substantial anodizing business. Ron is a great guy with reasonable prices. You can email him at [email protected] grin

Heat Shrink - Stove

Posted By Steve Sands

I just purchased 12 feet of heat shrink from Judy & Randy Cunningham of AstroSystems. In one hour I was able to mark the tubes, cut the heat shrink into eight pieces and apply the stuff to my tubes. I used a Milwaukee heat gun on the high setting and it made **very** quick work out of it! There was no lateral shrinking, so I ended up with the length that was cut. It was actually kind of neat to watch the stuff shrink! I stood the pole on end, started at the top and applied heat from the top down. It is certainly much nicer than the foam pipe insulation I was using - it would slide off, tear, etc, not to mention it being very bulky. The shrink tubing is reasonably lightweight and will stay put.
