Re: Global Dimming

Jim I'm not sure whether there is pony in the room or whether the room is just full of horses**t. I don't believe the politicians have got the message yet that the ordinary Joe is getting squeezed financially. To them suffering means flying home on weekends on a commercial airlines rather than a private jet. For the ordinary Joe it means going without needed medications to afford buying gas to go to work. We live a fantastic country that is being ruined by a bunch of greedy politicians. The part of me that is looking for the pony in a room full of horses**t hopes that the people can overcome the idiots. The part of me that says its just a room full of horses**t says it's to late greed has rigged the system

I'm all for a honest discussion of the science, but at least don't keep using the same lame websites from the list of astro-turfing, industry supported non-scientists :S Give me a break! SPPI, the Australian News Jeesh! Why not just say the Exxon/Mobil says don't worry. These are the same people who denied any link between tobacco and cancer and had the science to back it up.

A bit of information about SPPI

The Science and Public Policy Institute (SPPI) is a United States based organization that is skeptical of human induced climate change.

It was formerly known as the Center for Science and Public Policy for the Frontiers of Freedom, a conservative think tank founded by former Republican senator Malcolm Wallop. The institute describes itself as a

nonprofit institute of research and education dedicated to sound public policy based on sound science. Free from affiliation to any corporation or political party, we support the advancement of sensible public policies for energy and the environment rooted in rational science and economics. Only through science and factual information, separating reality from rhetoric, can legislators develop beneficial policies without unintended consequences that might threaten the life, liberty, and prosperity of the citizenry.

The organization's Executive Director is Robert "Bob" Ferguson, a former Chief of Staff to Republican Congressmen Jack Fields (1981-1997), John E. Peterson (1997-2002), and Rick Renzi (2002). The chief science adviser to the institute is Willie Soon, PhD an astrophysicist and geoscientist, an opponent of man made global warming and advancer of the theory that climate change is caused by solar variation. The chief policy adviser is Christopher Monckton, a former special adviser to Margaret Thatcher and one of the UK's most prominent climate change sceptics.

TVMOB was recently discussed in this forum concerning his outright lies concerning the APS. Willie Soon has been discredited so many times it's pathetic. SPPI sole source of funding is Exxon/Mobil

And how many times have Spencer et. al. results been shown to rife with errors and how many times have they issued corrections in the scientific literature and then denied they made the corrections in the public literature? :C Spencer and company are famous for cooking their results to get the results they want. This is just another example. Keep trying Doug :S

In the decsion handed down in September 2007 the judge noted that:

There is widespread acceptance of the basic premises that underlie Hansen’s testimony. Plaintiffs’ own expert, Dr. Christy, agrees with the IPCC’s assessment that in the light of new evidence and taking into account remaining uncertainties, most of the observed warming over the last fifty years is likely to have been due to the increase in GHG concentrations. Tr. vol. 14-A, 145:18-148:7 (Christy, May 4, 2007). Christy agrees that the increase in carbon dioxide is real and primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels, which changes the radiated balance of the atmosphere and has an impact on the planet’s surface temperature toward a warming rate. Id. at 168:11-169:10.

So when under oath Christy says Hansen is correct, when Christy isn't under oath he tells a completely different story. I wonder which I should believe?

Ah! I get it now. There is no global warming because over several MONTHS the curves have a negative slope. Got it! We now know all ASGW's are liars because the curves show a negative slope in November and December! That proves beyond a shadow of doubt.

From a science site two years ago

"Some climate scientists are predicting that surface temperatures will remain static or even fall slightly over the next few years, before warming resumes. Their predictions are based largely on the idea that changes in long-term fluctuation in ocean surface temperatures known as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation will bring cooler sea surface temperatures.

If these predictions are right - and not all climate scientists think they are - you can expect to hear more claims from climate-change deniers about how global warming has stopped. But unless we see a simultaneous fall in both surface temperatures and ocean-heat content, claims that the "entire planet" is cooling are nonsense.

And while a big volcanic eruption could indeed trigger genuine cooling for a few years, global warming will resume again once the dust has settled."

More Myth-Busting on Sarah Palin!

Posted By Robert Pasken

Yes you can make up all the stories you want. Very few if any of the "myths" you list are anything but something you or some other Rove-like spin-master thought up. If you are going to try to debunk myths at least start with a myth. Duh of course the Governor of Alaska is the most powerful job in the state of Alaska :S Yes she did more than just push and approve the Sports center. As Mayor of Wasilla between 1996-2002, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) helped get nearly $27 million in earmarked federal funding. Under her leadership, the town hired a lobbying firm, Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh (now named Hoffman Silver Gilman & Blasco P.C.), and worked with Steven Silver, a partner at the firm and former Chief of Staff for powerful appropriator, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK). This is when the earmarked funding started flowing.

grasping at straws aren't we. She did a lousy job and has been called on it. You should expect to at least understand the basic concept, details about the policy are open for discussion, but she had never heard of the Bush Doctrine. Krauthammer is spinning.

So you choose to prove to us Palin's great skills by referencing a highly edited and changed after the fact quotes from websites that are well known as spin rather than the ABC transcript Yes we understand how desperate you are to make Palin palatable.
