Jupiter 4/1 Ganymede and Cracking the Belts

Posted By Christopher Go

Seeing was around 9/10 but transparency at around 4/5. There was a very thin haze on the sky today.

The NEB is filled with rifts! You can see the "cracks" in the NEB. The SEb is very well resolved. There is a blue streak at the STrB at the CM.

Note the crescent Ganymede with features. BTW, had to reposition Ganymede to reduce image size.

Regards,

Chris

Jupiter 4/2 Perfect Night with IR

Posted By Christopher Go

Seeing was fantastic tonight. I spent the night observing and imaging with Tomio Akutsu. Seeing was around 9-10/10 with 5/5 transparency! We also took an IR image of Jupiter.

There are lots of details in Jupiter. The NEB is filled with red spots. The Oval BA is now very well defined. There are spots on the NTB and the NNTB. Note also the growing white spot above the oval BA.

The color image was done using a Toucam while the IR image was done using an Atik 1HS Cam.

I wish to dedicate these images to the Holy Father who passed away today. Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace.

Narrow Band advise needed

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Tomio left me some toys to play with. This includes his Atik 1HS Cam and some filters (RGB, IR, UV and Methane). I tried imaging with the Methane and UV filter on Jupiter but it seems too dark. In fact, even with the gain high, I couldn't make out an image! Any advise on how do do imaging with this filter?

Also, how do I use the Atik Cam on long exposure mode?

Regards and Thanks,

Chris

Jupiter 4/3 Opposition Night with GRS

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Here's my latest image of Jupiter. It is opposition day of Jupiter. Seeing was around 7-8/10 tonight with transparency at around 4/5.

Note the big STB spot above the GRS. Also note a bluish cloud to the right of this spot. Note the spot inside the GRS. The SEB is filled with rifts!

The EB is filled with Blue festoons! Some of the festoons are even in the NEB (left side).

The NEB is filled with rifts. There is an interesting dark point surrounded with white rifts on the right side of the GRS. I have imaged this feature last April 1. There are also bright spots on the NTB and the NNTB.

Jupiter 4/6 Another Perfect Night

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Seeing was perfect tonight at around 9/10 with transparency at around 4/5.

Lots of details in Jupiter's "boring side". Note the two spots on the SPR. There is a bright spot at the STrZ at the CM! There are also interesting blue festoons at the STrZ.

The SEB is very well resolved while there is a very big and dark blue festoon at the EB. The NEB is still filled with rifts. Interesting is the dark spot at the NEB at the CM which is surrounded by rifts and a reddish cloud. This feature has been present since late last month.

The blue bands at the NTrB are very resolved. While there seems to be some faint white rifts at the NTB.

Image processed with SGBNR with PixInsight!

More image later including a comparison of the CONR vs Default mode on the Toucam on perfect conditions!! Stay tune!!

First Jupiter with C11 - 4/11

Posted By Christopher Go

Hello,

Tomio's C11 has finally arrived! I was so excited today. Here's my first image using the C11. The image is a little blurry as I still have to learn how to focus manually. I have a motorized focuser coming but it won't be here till next week.

Lots of details on Jupiter. Note the reddish NTB band!! It is very prominent now with the C11 compared to my C8 image below.

Will try to image again tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the focus right this time.

Jupiter 04/15

Posted By Christopher Go

After a few frustrating days with the C11, I went back to my C8. Focusing was very difficult with the C11 without a motorized focuser! The focuser of this old C11 is very jumpy! My NGF-CM will arrive next week so hopefully I can get back at imaging again with the C8.

Will be leaving for China on a business trip tomorrow. So no images from me for a week.

Seeing was around 7/10 last night with transparency at around 3-4/5. This has been a weird April for us as it has been very cloudy in the evenings!

The GRS is very enlarged with the ring of it's actual size visible in this image. The NEB is filled with faint rifts. While the rifts after the GRS are very much resolved. No details on Ganymede tonight!

Jupiter 4/26 C11 on a perfect night!

Posted By Christopher Go

I'm back from my business trip. During my trip, I was able to meet some GREAT planetary images especially my mentor Eric Ng!! I also met the great planetary imagers Canon Lao and Daniel Chang!

When I returned to Cebu, I was glad to find my JMI NGF-CM waiting for me! After a few days of rain I finally had clear skies. Tomio was also excited so we imaged Jupiter with the C11.

Here's an image of Jupiter on a night of 9/10 seeing and 4/5 transparency! Note the impressive details on the NEB including a rift which seems to be affected with a white cloud on the EB. Note the dark red spots on the NEB.

I am still not happy with the image as the C11 seem to be very unforgiving!

Jupiter 05/01 Taming the Beast!

Posted By Christopher Go

After days of trying to tame the C11, I was really about to give up on it and go back to the C8. I had been frustrated by the fuzzy images of this scope! After taking down the JMI focuser, I realized that the 1/25" adapter that came with the NGF-CM isn't perfectly flat and is tilted when I attached this to my Maxbright. I removed the 1.25" adapter of my AP130 and viola PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Seeing was 9/10 tonight with 5/5 transparency. The image of the right is a stack of 465 frames out of 500. I had to keep my exposure time low to prevent movement. I am still trying to figure out how to remove the vertical lines when you look at Jupiter at close range. These disappear though when you look at the image about 2 ft away. Would appreciate it if I can get advises on how to deal with this

Jupiter is filled with details! The Oval BA is very prominent at the STB with ovals around it. The red spots on the NEB are very resolved and so are countless of rifts! There is a long dark red feature on the NNTB.

AR756-757 May 2

Posted By Christopher Go

Here's an image of AR 756 and 757 in HAlpha using Tomio's Atik 1HS cam.

No flares for now though... Imaged using my AP130 and a Solarmax 60. Pseudo flat was applied to this image.

Chris
