Solar question

Posted By Mike Dedon

AR 0776 let loose a C-class flare on Thursday as did AR 0775 with an M-class. That was probably what you and I saw. I caught it in the afternoon and could see the prominence with the separated flare above it. Aren't these PSTs great.

stacked sm 40 vs unstacked

Posted By Mike Dedon

Adding an SM40 to my PST was like opening a bigger world. I happened to have the cash at that time. Today, it may be a stretch. It's a tough choice and my non-solar friends still think I'm nuts.

Who are you and why are you in my chair?

Tried to make the pic smaller. Apparently it didn't work.

The little black/white appears to have some issue with your photo shoot.

Great looking pups.

CG5 Dual Motor Drive power supply - how many mA?

Posted By Mike Dedon

My C8 Advanced came with a dual drive CG5. The AC/DC adapter that came with it is 1.5A. However, there is a note in the FAQs on the CG5 Yahoo group forum that states at least 2A is needed to oversome an erratic slew problem. I haven't tried one yet, but browsing the Yahoo FAQs reveal some other quirks and habits of that mount. A "must read" if you have one of these mounts.

Any Good Samaritan Storm Stories?

Posted By Mike Dedon

Don't know if you call this Good Samaritan or not but it's touching. This is from the first couple of days after Katrina. The PMAC if the Pete Maravich Assembly Center (Basketball arena).

The PMAC will never host an important event like it did tonight.

>Little did I know what I would be doing following Hurricane Katrina's
>aftermath but as I type right now, there won't be a more gratifying or
>more surreal experience I went through tonight. We went up to the office

Almost Live image from a Cak PST at HOTS

How's the visual images with older than 19 year old eyes?
What about focus issues with the Ha PST and imaging equipment? Same on the Ca-K?

Can you stop by the house on the way home with it? I'm in Kentucky.

Paul, Any more info on the mounts you saw/used. I'm having a tough time finding stuff on the Meade web site. Is this just a simple ETX mount adapted for Coronado scopes?

Sisters

Posted By Mike Dedon

My wife and I went to a wild mustang auction last year and saw two chestnut sisters that looked an awful lot like these two. Of course their eyes were a little more wide open. Living in the thoroughbred capital around Lexington, KY you either love horses and basketball or you back out the door to Tennessee or Ohio real quick.

Love the picture and the horses. Keep 'em coming.

Best Books for Solar Viewing

Posted By Mike Dedon

Rik Hill at U of Arizona recommended "The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Sun" by Jay Pasachoff. Pretty comprehensive but not at all what the title suggests. I still keep referring to it. Got my copy from Amazon.
