Nylon or urethane works very well. It allowed me to paint the inverted 1 1/4" angle iron with "Hammerite". No paint has worn from the tracks in over a year now smile

I haven't done much with my observatory in the past few months.
So it was a great feeling to roll back the observatory roof and take a few shots. Here's one, full frame, no crop. Shot with my 300D at 1/125 ISO 200 single frame, attached to my Meade LX200 10" f6.3 scope via T-ring and camera adapter. Hoping for stable conditions to try Saturn in the next few days with the ToUcam smile

I plan on switching to a go-to GEM and am between the CGE and the G-11.

CI-700..which computer works best?

Hi all,
As I wait for my CI-700 to be shipped to me, I value your opinions on a encoder/computer combo. Argo-Navis....maybe ? I've been looking at the SkyWalker but realized setting this mount up with go-to is out of my budget. I'll settle on push-to for now (I'll spend the extra $$$ on the gym membership 8) ).

M42 1D MarkII single frame

Hi everyone,

Jeff said I would be suprised when I started to use my Mark II as an astro camera. Well......I am.

Here is a single frame of M42 shot RAW, iso 800, 120sec. converted in Digital Photo Professional and sharpened once in PS (150-.04-0)

Noise..??? Not much with dual processors.

I'll have to work out the burned core with other exposures :C

M81 and M82 w/1D MarkII

Here's M81 and M82 with the same single frame settings.

Can't wait to stack a quite a few images. Images Plus doesn't seem to gecognize the MarkII files in the Raw converter. Guess I'll have to convert with the PS Raw converter so Images Plus can recognize the images as BMP..????

CI 700 saddle plate....HELP!

My used CI 700 came with no saddle plate. Thinking this would work......I ordered one from Losmandy. Scott mentioned that the DEC clutch knobs may be in the way.....but I said send one anyway. well guess what....It won't work unless I machine a riser block to allow the knobs to clear!!

So what do I do ? Perhaps a Robin Cassidy G-11 saddle plate. I noticed the locking knobs are located front and rear not a single center clamp.

Suggestions please.........

Back online..at last

After lengthy switch from a fork mounted LX200 to a GEM.....I like it !

Very solid and smooooooth motions. Now that it's drift aligned....time to attach th NGC Max computer. It's a bit of a sacrifice for the goto mount but I think I'll get use to it.

Out with the old (10" LX200 f6.3)
In with the new (C11 on a CI 700) smile
