first attempt at full color processing

Hi all; well this is my first attempt at full color processing of a deep space object, I took this shot 7-6-06 with an Orion starblaster on an Atlas EQ-G mount and a SAC-7 CCD camera. It is made up of 10 75sec. exposures in R.G.B. then sacked in Registax3 and processed in Photoshop7. Ya I went a bit nuts with the stars and I know the color is off on the Neb. but its my first try. I hope you like it.

HELP with focuser collimation

Hi all; Ok, I just installed a new Moonlite CR2 focuser on what was my perfectly collimated 10" newt., But now the collimation is all mucked up. I have never had to collimated a focuser before so I need some help here. Do I just put my tools in the focuser and play with the Collimation screws on the focuser until it looks right again?

NEED HELP PICKING NEW EP's

Need Help picking a new EP,

Hi All, I just got back from RAC's summer star party. We had some great skies, but it was not very long that I found out that I was lacking in the EP dept.. So I'm looking to improve on what I have, most of the EP's I have are the owns that come with the scopes with the exception on a 6mm TMB/Burgess, a 38mm SWA Burgess & a Meade 12mm Supper Plossl. I am looking at picking up two new EP's one high power & a mid power both with an 70 - 80deg FOV. so here is what I have been thinking about.

In the High Power- 1) Meade 5000 Ultra Wide Angle 08.8mm
2) Tele Vue Nagler 09mm Type 6
3) Pentax XW Series 07mm.

In the Mid Power- 1) Meade Series 5000 Super Wide Angle 24m
2) Tele Vue Panoptic 24mm
3) Pentax XW Series 20mm

Or any thing els in about the same price range you all can think of.

Ok this review is as subjective as you can get. 1) I'm old with old eyes 2) I'm using a cheep scope ( Orion XT10i ) and 3) all the EP's in have up too now are the ones the come with the scope when you buy them. With that being said last night I took part in a star party over at High Point Scientific last night.When I got to the store I told Dave that I was in the market for two new EP's one high power and one mid. power. He gave me some demo EP's to try at the star party they were, Tele Vue Nagler 09mm Type 6, Pentax XW Series 10mm, & a Meade Series 5000 Ultra Wide Angle 08.8mm for the low power and a Pentax XW Series 20mm, Meade Series 5000 Super Wide Angle 20mm, & a Tele Vue Nagler 17mm Type 4 ( he did not have a Nagler 20mm in stock ) in the mid power range. I started out with the TV 9mm and right out of th e box the eye relief was no good for me. I then tried the meade 8.8mm not bad ... not bad at all so I thought until I tried the Pentax 10mm WOW IMHO it just was superior the the Meade and the TV. to keep this short I did the same with the mid power EP's and ended up going home with two new Pentax EP's and I am planing to get the full set over time.

Cherry springs in Nov.

Hi All; My self and 3 or 4 others were thinking of going up to Cherry Springs for the new moon in Nov. any one been there at that time of the year? how cold will it get? any snow? I'm one of the first on the list to rent the new Observatories they were putting in so that should make it nice if there done by then.

Any info would be great

Imaging filter question

I just picked up a DSI pro II I and I have two questions. First, Is there anything special about the color filters used in imaging other then the uv block, and if not what filter numbers are used IE blue 80A. The other question is how and what are you using to keep the filter slide clean and safe when not in use.

First light DSI pro II

Hi All, here is the first image with the new Meade DSI Pro II imager. I took it last night Shot it with the 10" newt on the atlas eq-g . I also shot m27 first but the new imaging software ... well let me just say i need some more time with it. I did not do a lot of processing, ran it in Nebulosity to convert it from a fits file to a jpeg and then ran it in photoshop to frame it and a little adj.

First try with 80ED & DSI ProII

Hi ,well tonight I did some imaging. this is M57 The Ring nebula a planetary nebula Lyra. The image is made up of a 33 min. exp. luminance only ( thats B&W only ) the image was taken with an Orion 80mmED refractor (thanks Jim), Meade DSI ProII all on an Orion Atlas EQ-G mount. Hope you like it.
