Moonlight focuser and GSO 8" f/4. Backfocus problem??!?

Andre,

You may have an issue with reaching focus. Try to get as low a profile focuser as you can. I had an issue with a GSO 8"f/4. I replaced the stock focuser with the low profile focuser from GSO. Even with this modification, the Digital Rebel would come to focus with the Baader MPCC screwed into the T-adapter with only two mm of inwards travel left. If I used an Antares 2" prime focus adapter, it wouldn't come to focus at all. You should think about getting as low a profile focuser as you can and also get GSO's own 2" prime focus adapter tube (Orion now sells a comparable one) if you plan to image without an MPCC.

Nice image, Charlie. Yes, this is a low hanging fruit. Even in south central Texas, this object never gets up too high above the southern horizon. The highest it's gotten is around 40 degrees. And yes, it's been shot to death, but it's just amazing how everyone keeps returning to it year after year. It certainly is a summer favorite, be it visual, sketching or imaging. Keep at it. I look forward to seeing your color image.
