So, I guess you are all OK with this? #2

You probably should, since Trump's support is eroding across almost all demographic categories right now. The COVID-19 pandemic, the widespread demonstrations since George Floyd's death, and an economic downturn that started in February according to new financial data have laid-bare Trump's utter incompetence, his lack of political understanding, and his I'm a victim mentality. No one can predict what the national political ecosystem will look like in five months, any more than anyone could have predicted what has unfolded in the last five months. This much is for sure, though; Trump does not have the political instincts or the character to react to national crises in a way that benefits him politically. He has managed to alienate and turn-off voters in almost every demographic in the last five months. The only one he still holds steady in is white voters without a college degree.

As usual, the devil is in the details. The world is not a place that is full of binary and straightforward yes or no answers. There is lots of evidence for systematic inequality between blacks and whites, not the least of which is the wealth gap. When you also consider our history of structural differences between races as it relates to access to affordable housing, education, and health-care, it seems pretty hard to deny that blacks and minorities have had less opportunity than whites. This phenomenon is certainly not unique to the USA. All countries, especially those that were colonized by people of white European descent, have this same problem. Canada, Australia, South Africa, and many others struggle with these same problems. Honestly, I don't understand why some people are so hell-bent on not recognizing it. It seems to me to be an obvious fact.

In this environment does K. Harris have a chance on the left?  I hope she does, but I kind of doubt it.

Jim

If current trends continue, he is toast. Presidential politics can always be surprising, but surely by now, we all know that Trump is utterly incapable of taking political advantage of any turning point. On the other hand, I certainly hope the Democrats are wise enough not to make the campaign about "defunding" the police. It's a terrible sound bite and overshadows the real meaning and will be used against Democrats effectively. So, there is plenty of time for Democrats to screw things up royally, but I do not doubt that Trump will continue to make his situation only worse as he continues to bungle every crisis that comes his way.

You have shifted the conversation to the era of lynchings and Jim-Crow to discount what is happening today as not being oppression. Frankly, I find that to be disingenuous. It was clear from the beginning that none of us were talking about the sins of the past.

Who could have ever imagined that Mr. Two Corinthians would abbreviate the Secret Service as S.S. during some of the worst racial tension the country has seen since the 1992 L.A. riots? The next thing you know, he's going to decide to hold his upcoming MAGA Rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the site of the worst race riots in U.S. history, on June 19th, the day we celebrate the end of slavery. Maybe he will even decide to address the nation on race and unity? Perhaps he will also get Stephen Miller to write the speech and have it vetted by Jared? No, that just crazy talk, right?

Rod,

Did you see the clap-back the mayor of Seattle did to Trump when he was threatening to send troops into her city? She said, and I'm paraphrasing, "Why don't you make us all safer and shut-up and go back to your bunker!" It's pretty amazing to see the POTUS get into these Twitter feuds with other political leaders, especially when he has no authority to act. It just makes him look weak and pathetic. Especially now that the military has broken ranks with his desire to used federal military powers for domestic law-enforcement. The only real question left is who else can our idiot POTUS alienate? Is there anyone else left at this point?

I haven't bothered to read one of his tirades in many months. They rarely address what you said, and seem to be sweeping outbursts where he airs all kinds of gripes and grievances that are lacking in details or subtlety. The best course of action is to ignore them as you would a child's temper tantrum.

There is reporting today that Trump is being advised to change his tone regarding the sweeping cultural change we are seeing unfolding in front of us. In entirely predictable fashion though, Trump is doubling down and digging in and continuing to make tone-deaf and insensitive comments. This man's political arsenal is entirely impotent.

So out of touch. So clueless. It's utterly baffling that Trump supporters think he is some kind of political genius and a tough guy who is draining the swamp. He is at odds with the Federal Reserve, the US military and the Intelligence Community. He's in open conflict with mayors and governors across the country regarding how to deal with protestors. The NFL has apologized for not taking player concerns about racism seriously in the past, and it's looking like Colin Kapernick is going to be signed by an NFL team. NASCAR has banned Confederate flags. Confederate statues are coming down in the South by order of city and state officials. The military is open to renaming army bases named after undistinguished and incompetent Confederate commanders, Milley apologized for being snookered into being a part of Trump's ridiculous St. John's church and bible photo-op. States and cities are moving forward with otherwise formerly stalled police reforms. The public at large overwhelmingly supports all of this sea-change. Yet Trump's instinct is to be on the opposite side of this profound and notable transformation. He is going to lose so badly in November.

There you go again, flailing around at the demons in your head instead of what people actually say. Any normal person would grow tired of the mental masturbation you participate in so frequently, but I guess some people just can't keep from arguing with themselves.
