Richard, asking those three questions once is debate.  Asking them over and over again is belligerence.

Clarence/Alito Scramble For Financial Extensions

Posted By David Cotterell

I asked this in another thread but it got buried under all the arguing and sniping.

How, in any sane political system, are financial donations allowed to be made to sitting judges at any level?  Judges are not (supposed to be) political figures.  The judiciary is meant to be independent, isn't it?  Three branches and all that...

The concept of lifetime appointments isn't really the problem. They are paid a decent salary.  Why can rich folks give them money, trips, property?  That is my question....

Meanwhile...

The fires are in very remote areas but there are some isolated native communities near some of them...many have had to evacuate.
The smoke is affecting many millions of people, however.
There is a low pressure system that has been stuck over Nova Scotia for a week or more.  The backside airflow is coming down over the eastern Great Lakes and on into New England, New Jersey and New York...  If this system moves off the smoke will blow into the mostly uninhabited North Atlantic region....but when will this low move?

Trump Indicted. Again.

Russ and Greg, you two are talking about different things.  I quote you with my bolded clarifications..

Russ: "Greg, the Fed has been sucking the air out of the economy by reducing money and increasing interest rates. I’m sincerely interested in who is saying this stuff. Anybody that has traveled to Europe lately will tell you how strong the dollar is compared to other currencies.

Greg: "You been hiding under a rock for the last 3 years? You really think a dollar goes as far as it did 3 years ago? Not noticed the inflation? Dont believe there are consequences to printing more money so you can spend more? Seriously?"  i.e. the buying power of the  US dollar now compared to its buying power 3 years ago...the US dollar compared to itself over time.

Both statements are true.

Firstly, the judiciary is the focus here.  In both countries the justices are hardly in 'poverty' - they make a good 6-figure  wage. Supreme Court judges are appointed in both countries so they don't need campaign donations like politicians do. That's why I'm singling out judges.  My concern is that folks are giving judges gifts of great value, trips etc.  This should never be allowed.  The implied mutual backscratching is obvious..  And seeing who the donors are makes it even more obvious.

What should be extremely troubling to the leftists and the RINOs here is that there is a 2 tier justice system in this nation, One for Donald Trump and One for everyone else as Alan Dershowitz has pointed out, but that is unimportant to those who don't care about the US Constitution and the corrupt DOJ.

Not surprising, especially when it comes to "Lawyers" out there.   smile
The 1850 boxes were his Senatorial archives.  By law, they are his property upon leaving the senate, to do with whatever he pleases.  Also, they aren't classified.  He donated them to his Alma Mater.

James, how can you definitively say this?   You are not party to private conversations that occurred between Thomas and his benefactor. They could set up anything at all and no one would ever know.

Of course I do not know what went on between them either.  But what IS real  is the appearance, the potential for the desires of the donor to show up in Thomas' voting record.

Funny how we never hear Thomas say, "Oh, my good friend X, who buys me expensive vacations, is really concerned about this issue so I'd better recuse myself from this vote.  For appearances sake."

Appearances are all we have.  Better to have rules in place to remove this sort of doubt in the integrity of the judiciary. No gifts, no 'donations' to judges.
