Mars - Uranus Comparison

Posted By George Mavromates

What kind of scope did you use? Would love to see more shots of this type. Especially Uranus/Neptuse.

Fair trade?

Posted By George Mavromates

Seems like a very good trade. I would say the LX 50 with the mag II is the better bargain when it comes to the mount.

Collimating refractors

Posted By George Mavromates

If you go to the Meade refractor group in yahoo, in the files section there is a guide made by the members that gives examples on how to collimate a refractor

Re: Cool down time?

I live in Jacksonsville and cool down is still an issue. If you keep it in an unheated garage then you won't have to wait as long as you would if you lived in Vermont. I usually leave my Mak 7out a couple of hours. The humidity is diffinetely a concern. You need a dew shield.

AR6-LXD55 vs. C6-RGT

Posted By George Mavromates

I did see a thread somewhere on yahoo saying that the mount/tripod is pushed to its max with the C 9.25 sct but is a little better with the 6" refractor but there is still some vibration. Do some research on the celestron threads befor you buy. Both scopes are made in China. Go to the Meade refractor forum on Yahoo and you can get some good info on the AR 6.

Meade Apo's

Posted By George Mavromates

I owned a 127ED. It was an excellent scope with very good color correction. If you like see my review on astromart on the 127ED. Burgess Optical is supposed to come out with a 153ED I am waiting for a review. If it's as good as the Meade I will buy it. Will sell around 850-$900 and weigh only 21LBS. That's what the Meade 5" APO weighs.I sold it because I wanted more aperture and got a 7" Meade Mak for the Mars July 03 show. It also was an excellent scope. Now I have a 10" LX 200. Good all around scope. Great for deep sky. It's very heavy and does not have that Refractor crisp view. Hope this helps.

Is this the same telescope that Antares is selling in Canada and claiming to be Semi ED? Or is it better?

8" Celestron Fastar C8 worth fixing?

Posted By George Mavromates

Fix it. A decent used tube as you said is around $500. If you fix it you know it's new and under warranty for $400
