I've been to Poland a number of times on business, we have a satellite office there, and one of the things that may surprise you is that Lech Walesa is actually not well liked among many Poles. After the solidarity movement, he was apparently caught up in a whole host of political scandals, some involving sex and infidelity which matter a lot to poles for reasons I'll mention later, and apparently he has never been forgiven for them entirely. You may be surprised to learn too that in many ways Poland is more conservative and certainly less culturally diverse than the US. For example, abortion is illegal in Poland (except in special cases) and they have almost no ethnic minority population. They are something like almost 90% Roman Catholic and have almost no immigration or political asylum, hence the dislike over Walesa's seedier scandals.

I don't think any of that is of great importance to the election, except to say that I suspect Obama won't miss Walesa's endorsement.

Perceived gaffes? Really?

I don't think Romney could have done worse if he had tried. I was talking to some of my Polish cohorts and they were laughing about how Romney praised Poland's prosperity and credited it due to small government when Poland has universal health care, maternity leave for the wife and the husband as well as free college for citizens. When I was in Poland last, I ran into a Canadian couple who was there visiting their son who was in medical school because even with him being a non-citizen it was cheaper to go to school there than in Canada. Poland has done quite well at remaking itself and a lot of it has to do with throwing off the yoke of communism, but a lot of it has to do with their progressive policies as well.

It certainly beat talking to an empty chair.

I'll discuss, it's obvious he's so out of touch, he can't even touch his own knees.

I always thought the out of touch argument had no merit in the past, but with Romney it seems to stick like glue.

The Daily Mail is a British tabloid. You do realize I hope that quoting a British tabloid has about as much authority as quoting the American tabloid National Enquirer.

It's a bit more complicated than just one national poll what with swing states and the electoral college to consider.

If you want a more accurate predictor:

1. Look at the polling coming from early voting in states like Ohio, Wisconsion, Nevada, etc.

2. Also look at Presidential election futures markets like the Iowa Electronic Markets or Intrade.

Mitt's just desperate to reverse what's going on in Ohio at any cost is my guess. He knows if he doesn't win Ohio, he's going to vacation at one of the 12 villas he's bought for his heirs for the rest of his life, so he's pulling out all the stops.

Yeah, Romney was desperate. He's losing Ohio.

Update: this is from 2007. However, he's a religious nut-bag that thinks US foreign policy depends on the Book of Revelation. As far as I'm concerned that's disturbing to our foreign policy. No wonder he's so fixated on Obama's support of Israel.
