says:

It's a significant change in tone from the Bush years, when any perceived slight of Katrina victims was met with charges that the Republican president who bungled the initial response to the disaster continued to callously ignore the Gulf's needs years later.

Just last summer, Democrats accused Bush of putting Iraq before New Orleans when he sought to block Gulf Coast reconstruction money from a $162 billion war spending bill. Bush was pilloried for not mentioning the disaster in back-to-back State of the Union addresses.

So does that mean that Bush push Katrina funding along enough that money is not the issue anymore or does it simply mean that how those impacted by Katrina react is dependent primarily by who is in office? It looks like Katrina was just another issue that liberals used as a weapon to attack Bush instead of actually caring for the victims. How typical of the left.

As I understand it, the left has run the politics in New Orleans for decades and the public there was quick to blame all of their problems on Bush, when any fair assessment would have shown that there was plenty of blame to spread around. NO was not the only area impacted by Katrina, but the liberal area of NO demonstrated that it was full of the biggest group cry babies who would rather sit around complaining about Bush than doing as other impacted areas who pulled together to get something accomplished. How sad.

I saw this before and was actually amazed by it. Clearly a slap in the face to the left who used the misfortune of citizens as a political weapon. Nobody doubts the federal response to Katrina was lacking but the left turned it into something of legend; that is clear. The left's battle cry of "Remember Katrina!" has just lost all its steam. There is not one cent in the stimulus package directed to Katrina relief (can anyone provide a better example of a place needing infrastructure work?). Where's the left's bitching about this? It doesn't exist. Their excuse for not crying out loud? They have enough money. Wait a minute. Up until a month ago their position was that Bush doesn't care about the "little people" and won't provide funding. So now they have enough funding but there's a "red tape" issue? Sounds to me more like a “tap dance” issue. So which way is it Democrats?
Yeah, the Democrats care about the "little people" much more than Republicans, that's for sure. And you know what? I'm not above saying if the situation was reversed Republicans would have done the same thing.

Kind of like the tax issue. They don't mind taxing the crap out of people since clearly they have no intent on paying any themselves. Yeah, that’s painting with a broad brush but that’s exactly how the left demonized the right over the last few years. This Democratic "glow" they've cast upon themselves is fading fast...from a number of horrible cabinet picks that had to withdraw, corruption investigations, tax-evaders in cabinet positions, Burris/Blogo, rampant hypocrisy like this Katrina issue, etc. All just goes to show you corruption and the like is nonpartisan. Obama continues to shine and that’s great, but if he fails in general it won’t be the right’s doing. His own party’s actions will bring him down. Cyclical politics in action. How many times did someone post here this last election was the end of the Republican Party? Anyone think the reverse won’t be said in 4 or 8 years? Yeah, it’s early. But this is a lot of crap already for “early”. Unless they turn the trend around quickly the only “shovel ready” project they’ll find is their own grave.

It looks like there are still a lot of people out there that are not convinced that Obama was even eligible to be President.

I have no idea if he is or is not. I have no opinion. But just for the fun of it, what are the ramifications if we were to learn that he really was eligible? What would happen?

This guy is a bonehead. Did he demand to see the birth certificate of everyone else in his chain of command before he accepted their orders as legitimate? He is clearly making a political statement and is doing more harm to his fellow soldiers than he is anyone else. Undermining the morale of the military, which is the only thing he'll accomplish through this ignorant act of grandstanding, is a punishable offense under the UCMJ. Those who have served in the United States armed forces understand the basic premise of serving...they are here to protect and defend democracy, not practice it. That basic premise is what makes our military the best in the world.

I knew there was another reason we should keep GITMO open. grin

Well it looks like Obama's economic policies are at best a failure and as this Wall Street Journal OpEd states he is running out of people to blame.

What is new is the unveiling of Mr. Obama's agenda and his approach to governance. Every new President has a finite stock of capital -- financial and political -- to deploy, and amid recession Mr. Obama has more than most. But one negative revelation has been the way he has chosen to spend his scarce resources on income transfers rather than growth promotion. Most of his "stimulus" spending was devoted to social programs, rather than public works, and nearly all of the tax cuts were devoted to income maintenance rather than to improving incentives to work or invest.

His Treasury has been making a similar mistake with its financial bailout plans. The banking system needs to work through its losses, and one necessary use of public capital is to assist in burning down those bad assets as fast as possible. Yet most of Team Obama's ministrations so far have gone toward triage and life support, rather than repair and recovery.http://www.astromart.com/forums/postmessage.asp?

The market has notably plunged since Mr. Obama introduced his budget last week, and that should be no surprise. The document was a declaration of hostility toward capitalists across the economy. Health-care stocks have dived on fears of new government mandates and price controls. Private lenders to students have been told they're no longer wanted. Anyone who uses carbon energy has been warned to expect a huge tax increase from cap and trade. And every risk-taker and investor now knows that another tax increase will slam the economy in 2011, unless Mr. Obama lets Speaker Nancy Pelosi impose one even earlier.

Meanwhile, Congress demands more bank lending even as it assails lenders and threatens to let judges rewrite mortgage contracts. The powers in Congress -- unrebuked by Mr. Obama -- are ridiculing and punishing the very capitalists who are essential to a sustainable recovery. The result has been a capital strike, and the return of the fear from last year that we could face a far deeper downturn. This is no way to nurture a wounded economy back to health.

Perhaps they're reading the polls and figure they have two or three years before voters stop blaming Republicans and Mr. Bush for the economy. Even if that's right in the long run, in the meantime their assault on business and investors is delaying a recovery and ensuring that the expansion will be weaker than it should be when it finally does arrive.

What a loser Obama is.

I don't think he has 2-3 years to play the Bush-card. I believe folks are getting tired already of him finishing every sentence with "....I inherited". Yeah, we get that, but you were hired to fix it. Quit with the pre-emptive excuses in the event it all does fail. He clearly doesn't display confidence in his own recovery agenda being successful. Either does the market or the general public. All we can do at this point is hope it does work because unfortunately it's law. Yes, it's early but it might not be too much longer when the nation is guessing how low the stock market will be when Obama is defeated in his re-election bid. wink I hope we see some progress soon and we can call him a "genius"... socialist. wink

Several nice proms today, one especially large. Unfortunately rather dim and hard to tweak out of the noise. That combined with horrible seeing makes some great excuses for a mediocre image. wink

I think folks are going to let him off the hook. These guys are constantly in front of a microphone, they are bound to say goofy things on ocassion. If we over-analyze stuff like this we'd still be talking about...

"Too many good docs are getting out of the business. Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." --George Bush. 8O

Or...

"You work three jobs? ... Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that." --to a divorced mother of three, Omaha, Nebraska, Feb. 4, 2005 :S

Joe the Plumber...

Posted By Mike Strieber

Why is this guy in the news? I can't imagine why the Republican party thinks they can mount a comeback putting the likes of this guy out front. Is there someone out there actually relating to Joe the Plumber? Raise your hand, please.
