Advantages/ Dis- Mounts ??

Posted By John Meiners

Just curious, I have used EQ mounts but never have had hands on a Wedge type.. I see they are both used with the C-8. Is there one that works better with this type of scope? Thanks, John M

Just waiting for my C8 to arrive. Question is: how do I arrive at what Magnification I am at with different EP's I have? I do not know the Focal length of the 8" My TV 102 is 880mm. I divide my EP. size lets say my Rad 4mm. into 880 and I am at 220 X. my 55mm. Plossl gives me 16 x.
can someone give me the formula I will need with my SCT? thanks so much for your time.. John M

Best Array Of EP's For C8 ??

Posted By John Meiners

After side by side field tests with my TV 102 refractor, I pretty much found out what worked well with that particular system and what did not..(Meade 14mm UWA) & an (Apogee 30mm. Wide Scan II.) were winners. Now with the New Celestron C8 I will begin again... All you C8 owners out there must have some "favorites" would like to hear your performance rating on a few EP's. I realize the field of view will be different, as I found out with a MN-76 Mak/Newt. I had for awhile, could not enjoy objects like the Double Cluster in Perseus the way I could with the 102. The 102 at 16X (TV 55mm. Plossl) framed the famous double with an inky black background and center stage appeared the twin clusters, like a Jewel Box glistening! With the Mak. nothing but stars filled the entire EP field.
On Planets: Will have to gear-up for Aug. Debut of The Anger Red One. what will be the odds/on favorite EP in this catagory? Ortho? Rad? Nag? or Plossl.
And in the DSO realm what compliments the C8 the best? Could only resolve M-57 using averted vision with the 102. Was a little better at 5000' Elev. (OR Star Party) last Aug. Cassini was hit and miss , Better with the 7" Mak. Looking forward to "1st light" with the C8. Will keep you all posted. Regards, John M

"Spaced Out" ! in Oregon

Posted By John Meiners

Have any of you ever experienced this realization before?
sitting on a hillside the other day, not a cloud in the sky, un-obstructed views from Horizon to Horizon...Suddenly in my minds eye the Blue Sky gave way to all the hidden Celestial objects that are so apparent at midnight. I was aware that hidden behind the Blue veil was Polaris and all his Polar friends playing ring around the Rosie... " I know, too many drugs in the 60's " just sharing a pleasant afternoon.. regards, JM

Polar Alignment with a C8/wedge??

Posted By John Meiners

My last system was a refractor on a EQ mount.. to align the tri-pod/EQ mount there was a small scope built right
in the EQ head. After I sighted in on the North Star with that, I was good for tracking objects with the RA drive. Question is; Now with my new Scope on it's way from the East Coast how does one align the tripod wedge so the tracking will be right on? Thanks John M
